Have one with quad and 148 loader, no cab
Quad is fine for my uses
Very handy chore tractor for me
Sips fuel.
Rake , load bales, feed bales, grind feed
FWD would be nice but 2wd works for me
Used to pull 6 row planter and cut hay with it in my starting out days
Always was going to trade it in but just keep it around.
9000+ hrs

Weve got a 77 model quad with 725 loader, good tractor, easy on fuel. Have put low end in the quad and OHd the motor due to elctralysis bout 12 yrs ago. Its just our extra tractor now but used to be the main loader tractor. Little small for a lot of jobs, but good loader and haying tractor.

They were good tractors. I started with one when began. They were a 90 hp tractor. You could up it to 105 with the newer engine. We went through 2 engines in its time. Had the Syncrorange. I liked it well enough. The AC was the weak part. Seems to go out frequently. I liked the tractor and used it hard as our primary tractor. Did us well.

Had one with an open station and syncro transmission with a loader. Good tractor and was trouble free. Like the others have said it was very easy on fuel. Was a hard starting tractor when it got cold just like all the other 30 series of that time were.

Liked my 4030 but for the after market Hiniker cab. Really not a lot less of a tractor than the 4230.

Owned 2 and both needed either to start. Like mentioned typical 30 series. One was a synchro but I liked the quad better. I used it on a batwing and it was much better trans for that. They are a good size for a 15' batwing and lower to the ground with 34" rubber so they don't feel as tippy. Price wise they are no more than a 4020 and can get used for the same jobs here and are a better tractor with more updates.

Dad bought one in Sept. of '72. That tractor was really quite a deal compared to a "630". Used it for everything, prolly pu 1000 hrs on it each year for the first 6 or more years. Easy on fuel as mentioned, but we used deere's oil and every morning and mid-day it took 1- 2 qts. of oil till we switched to Archer, then it got to more normal oil consumption . Only prob was that every 1500 hrs. (like clock-work) it would pit out the sleeves (hydroysis?), did this four times before dealer put a filter in the anti-freeze. Those 4 sleeve jobs was all it ever needed, tractor went to 12,000 hrs+, before it was traded. That sleeve issue,as i understand it was only an issue with the earliest ones. That was sure a nice tractor to drive!

We have one with around 10,000hrs, bought new in 73 traded an R on it. Ours has a 148 loader and has been abused for years and still runs like a top. The only trouble is the quad range is sort of week. Have been into the rear end several times and overhauled the engine once. As for starting ours starts rite up on the coldest days and never needs either. Hardly ever use it for field work anymore but in it's day it was the big tractor pulled a 5 bottom plow 13ft ofset disk and 12 shank mounted chisel plow. can't imagine doing that with it anymore.
