Looking for another cheap stationary PTO tractor. Found a decent looking Case 1370. Started great. Put it in gear and when I let the clutch out, the tractor hesitated before it would move. Then when I moved the powershift to 2 or 3 the tractor just stopped. Reverse worked. Same in all 4 ranges. Simple issue or major?

I know leaving it in reverse with stationary PTO work will ruin the transmission. I also worry about the parking brake not holding.

Run from it or simple fix?

Sounds like major powershift work. Yes the parks can be an issue if not cared for. Cheap fuel tractor though

Put it in 4th gear, hold the brakes and let out on the clutch. If it dies at least you know the torque limiter is good and the problem lies in the tranny most likely and requires a split at the torque tube and rearend... big split. If it kinda bucks repeatedly then most likely the torque limiter is shot and it requires a split at the torque tube and engine... easy split. I have a 1270 and a 2594 that I have to do a big split on as soon as I get time. Not too bad just intimidating.

How much engine rpms should I have when I try that?

How much a Case 1070 yellow no cab worth if it runs well?

It dies instantly in 4th at 1000 rpm. Must be the transmission. Any good for stationary PTO work this way?

Should be ok for pto work but if the wrong two clutches are partially engaged as the same time you will totally destroy the tranny which may send metal shavings into the oil which may plug the hyd pickup screen which may cause a loss of hyd pressure which would cause the pto to not work. That said, if cheap enough go for it. To me a 1070 with no cab is worth more than one with a cab but I'd still not give more than $2500 for one unless it was awful clean.

Sounds like the bolts are sheared in the powershift. I would say walk away. I know, I'm a Deere guy, but those 70 series Cases are why I'm a Deere guy.

I like Case tractors, but I would not bother with it at any price. Plenty of other cheap tractors out there. The number of people that still know how to work on those things are dwindling quickly. By dad has been going around and around with a shop trying to get the 3 point fixed on one of his from that era. Kids just don't know what they are doing apparently.
