Texas
What is the most basic and cheapest GPS system that I could use for spraying? WAAS only is fine just looking for something better than foam.

I use an ez guide 250 on WAAS, drive by the lightbar or row, no foam, no counting rows.

On the Trimble side of things the EZ-guide 250 is a very nice entry level system, simple to use and easy to install and move to other pieces of equipment.

Here is a nice video showing a simple little demo for the monitor, so you can see how things are operated and the structure of how things set-up

A very large consideration when purchasing precision products is dealer level of service and knowledge, make sure they have the ability to repair/service and train you properly on how to use this technology, I know this is a simple system, but if they teach you some tips and tricks on using it, it will accelerate the pay back on the purchase

Do you have trees next to your fields? If you have tree groves, best keep your foam marker installed and maintained. Otherwise the "cheapest" gps will be even more frustrating than a poorly performing foam marker. I still drop foam on the head lands while using my cruiser 2. By then, I am far enough out from the trees, I can usually do ok with just the gps using the A/B line mode.

EZ Guide 250 is probably a good recommendation. We started with and now have 2 EZ Guide 500's both purchased used. IMHO anything is better than foam but having a screen to show applied area is a BIG plus for us.

e-mail "magnumman" under precision equip in classifieds. Bought a cable from him last week and he had an Ez-Guide Plus for sale. Don't know about antenna.

It has a lightbar and a small screen. I don't think the E-Z Guide Plus will paint your swath like more expensive E-Z Guide units but is excellent for fertilizer and spraying.

Go to Google Images.....type in ez guide plus and you can get lots of images and info.

I would highly recommend that you go a bit higher than the cheapest you can find, and at least get a unit that will paint on the screen, where you have covered.

later you will most likely want to do more with it, so get something really cheap or else spend enough more to get a unit that you can update.

I started with a ez guide and moved up to a fm750. My 750 does a lot better job on waas than my old ez guide which is something else to think about.
Now wished I had dug deeper and went for the 1000. I still spray with the light bar, but have the coverage painting turned on. Sometimes I watch the coverage map as much or more than the light bar. Also if you know you missed a spot, or run out of spray, it is easy to get back to where you stopped.

I Move it to a different tractor for planting and tillage that has a ez pilot on it. Don't even like to run it now if the steering is not working.

Neighbor bought a new JD auto steer for one of his jd8300 tractors. That tractor had a problem last spring and they stopped tillage work instead of hooking up their other 8300 which did not have guidance in it. His dealer installed it for him and told him that if he didn't like it, they would take it off no charge! The dealer knew my neighbor would be hooked after he tried it out. So never let anyone install one if you don't want to buy it, cuz then you will want it, and have to figure out where to get the $.!

I vote Cruizer II-simple to use and lots of bang for buck.
