Yes they did, I once drove many miles to an auction that advertised a 1660 Case combine only to get there and find a orange Case 1660. Oh well, I like going to auctions anyway so I stayed for the duration of the sale.

The Case 1660 was close to the poorest piece of engineering, ever. Maybe the TD15B IH crawler was worse?

Those old 1940 TD15 final drives couldn't handle those DT-361 and later DT-407's screaming at 2400 rpm.... All of those cogs were accustomed to 1650 rpm of the old 554ci engine...

Don't think I've ever seen a J.I. Case 1660, not in this area anyway... Oliver 5555 either.

Quote...: The case 1660 was the largest and the last combine offered by J.I Case. When Case merged with International harvester in 1985 Case re-entered the combine market. It is interesting one of the first new Case International combines in 1986 was also a 1660. The original 1660 was a giant in its day. It was powered by a 100 hp V-8 engine and had a 100 bushel grain bin. The 1660 was a conventional combine with a 52 inch threshing area and could handle a wheat head up to 16ft. A big combine in the early 1970's and late 1960's was the 100 hp and a 100 bu grain bin. The John Deere 105, International 503 and Oliver 5555 were all equal competition for the 1660.

North End I-15
I had a Case 10something combine with 16' header (1966) . 318 Chrysler Industrial combine . Good combine in it's day . Great grass seed and wheat machine . Lousy barley . I later bought a JD105 and did a complete rebuild . The JD at 10 years later was worth 3 times of what the Case of same age was. Parts got impossible to get . Resale value was terrible . Sold it to a Canadian for $3500 , he was tickled as they were worth twice that in Canada .
Edmonton had good parts supply yet .

Ottawa . Ca

I had a 1665 if that counts...Its the newer version of a 1660. We called it the 'old apache' due to the constant patching. Had a 14 foot table and a 6 row cornhead. Combine was o.k but the cornhead gave daily miseries.

The Case 1660 combine was made from 1963 to 1970. 1970 was when all Case combines were discontinued until Case bought out IHC. The Special was set up for combining  corn. The old Case 1660 combine has the conventional threshing cylinder.

anyone still run Case combines? we have some at our Idaho place, some old 660s and the like maybe an 1160 too, many were from pinto bean operations. thinking about scrapping them.

dad recalls a guy who ran them and switched to a gleaner, he said the case actually did a good job, but they were underbuilt. where gleaner used a 1 inch shaft, case used a 3/4 or 7/8s.
