Subject: Mirror in a skid loader

EC IA
Would like to have a rear view mirror in my skid loader. Not much room to mount one.
Thought maybe up front like a sun visor in a car. Want it to fold up so it is out of the
way to get in & out. Did a little google search, but hadn't found what 'm looking for.
Anybody do anything like this ?
Bobcat 873

Can you keep your rear window clean enough to see anything?

It could be a challenge. The visibility out of these things is terrible.
Always afraid I'm going to back into something.

I have one in my bobcat just like a rear view mirror if your tall like me it's a challenge to use. Mine was in my machine when I bought it. Will see if there is a brand on it tomorrow.

I put one in mine that I just stuck to the top console. Think I got it at advance auto. Just peel off and stick it where you want. It's been there several years without falling off. Very helpful and saves a stiff neck

That spot on mine is pretty well filled up with controls.

I was thinking that too. What about a cheap backup camera?

Guess that would be a possibility. Hadn't thought of that.
Might be a little over kill, but better than backing into something.
Anybody recommend a cheap camera that would work good for a
job like this.

Put one like the top one in my Bobcat S185. Left it loose enough to move if I bump it. Seems to work good. David

I know New Holland lists a mirror as an accessory that can be added, thought it looked a bit spendy but like you I'm getting tired of twisting my neck to see what's behind me. I thought I even saw one for sale that fit a Bobcat a while back, might have been on Ebay, not positive.

Back up camera???? Not that expensive and might be worth a try. I sure if you get creaive on where to mount the cam, you might be able to keep it clean

Then you need a spot for the monitor in an already cramped space.

Your right, not much room for a monitor. Guess I could hang it from the ceiling also.
I like the mirror that DocBoy mentioned. Thats what I had in mind. Might check with
Bobcat in the morning, first.
Thanks, everybody, for your input.

I have the same skid steer and thought of the same thing as you. The ebay one that Docboy recommended might not work on mine as I have a cab with glass up there where it mounts.

Napa or another parts store should sell the small peel and stick convex mirror that you would put on a pickup mirror. Have one in mine right above the door on the rops in the cab. Not perfect but does work good for plowing snow!

I have the same skidsteer as you and this summer bought a little round mirror and mounted in almost above my head.. doesn't do a lot of good cuz its so small but at least I can see if anything major is behind me.

I have two round stick ons on the backside of the two front corner post,,,,not the best but beats nothing,,, there really aren't that many options considering cramped space and access......

Google "panoramic style rearview mirror". Neighbor has one in his 773 like that, it's only about 2" tall. Never noticed it being in the way and I have run it quite a few hours.

bobcat sells one for that model. Also the back door on them is pretty tough so you can run into a lot of stuff before repairing it. I backed into a salesmans car with mine because the guy pulled up right behind me and I never look back.

I had a extra mirror off a KW truck that mounts on top of the passenger door that I used on my wheel loader. It was not very expensive.

I have tried mirrors and been somewhat disappointed. Finally went to a CabCam and am glad I did. Sunny days with fresh snow it glares too much, but otherwise has saved many fenceposts from my high range backing.

I went to the outside with a convex on each arm. I usually have the arms down when backing up, otherwise I need to twist my head. I've been happy with these.

Did you got with the universal or bracketed ones? If universal did you have trouble with it falling off? Looks like these should work pretty good, a little spending but what isn't anymore.

Our Cat's all have panoramic rear view mirrors in them. When new they work great. But its hard to keep back window clean enough to see anything and you are still limited on viewing. Looking forward to backup camera on D series and if I were you I would look into a cheap one triggered by reverse alarm if you dont want it on all the time. Our Cat mirrors do work good if the windows are clean though and usually do not get bumped when getting in and out.

Indian Head, Saskatchewan., Canada

made these for ours, just a couple of convex mirrors and 1 1/2 tubing , then
I mounted them on springs so it can "wiggle" a bit
