Subject: Case IH 4494

Wellington, MO
If any of you guys have been around them or owned one could you please give me the good the bad or the ugly. I just keep coming back to these older 4wd's when trying to justify another tractor to use in the field. Don't need a huge one right now but would like to not have to keep wearing out the jacks on all the implements by hooking and unhooking. My local Case salesman said to stay away from them as they really dollar up when it comes to repairs and that some of the parts are hard to find. Didn't know if this was the actual truth or if he just wanted to sell me something more expensive. Thanks in advance for any input or advice.

Forgot to mention that I am looking for pto and 3pt. These tractors have both plus a partial power shift. Thanks again

I have a 2870, as cattle feeder said common sense goes a long way. Put it in a gear that will handle the chiesel plow, or disc and leave it there all day for the most part and few problems. Start using the power shift on every grade change your asking for trouble. If you are interested in the 2870 it has 4400 actual hours, new inside tires, a one owner. Has PTO and 3 point. Just don't have anyone that wants to drive it over the JD 8295R.

The electronics on them is a problem. The hydraulics can be a problem. Do you know what engine the 4494 has?

SCWI
The 2470/4490-94 has the Case 504, the 2670/4690-94 also has the 504 but is intercooled. The 2870/4890-94 used the Scania engine.
