You guys with your home grown feed troughs. I wonder if anybody has pics of a homemade creep feeder, or how you setup a temporary or makeshift structure. I'm guessing a couple panels against a fence and a sideways 4' gate with a rail or two cut out. .....Any pics? Do you do anything special to "train" calves to enter and eat from it?

Mace we built some with opening to just let calves in. But there's always a Houdini mama cow that can get in.

I built some for the neighbors using 1" pipe.
Start with a horizontal bar 16" off the ground, with the next bar 32" above the first, then the top rail 12", making a 60" tall gate. The first and last vertical bars are 60" on the side then 31" bars spaced 16" apart fore as long as you want your gate.
Hope that's clear as mud.

I had an old gate frame, basically the outside of a regular pipe gate with no cross sections, somebody dropped it off one day Grandpa told me. I just took a cattle panel and wired it to the frame, then cut a couple of calf sized holes in the cattle panel. I put it up next to the lot so the calves can get inside out of the weather but the cows can't. It works great but I'll probably have to replace the cattle panel in the next couple of years. Cattle panels ain't what they used to be. Kind of funny, the "smother mother" types sure don't like not being able to see their calves!
