Subject: need some pictures of your Farmall M

South Western Ontario, Canada
I am down to the short strokes in a complete rebuild of my grandfathers 1944 Farmall M.

I have hit a few snags, its been a ten year and three move project and I cant recall how some of the parts fit correctly.

I cant seem to remember if there is something between the air filter canister and the pedestal. I have two bands but for the life of me cant wrap my mushy brain around how it goes! Can someone grab a picture of theirs please?

Thinking of adding hydraulics so......
Does the hydraulics have a separate reservoir or use the tranny fluid? Belly mounted tank between the flywheel and transmission? I do see that a pump can be added down there but where would the tank be? I don't want a loader so tank wont be in the loader frame.

Anyone have a "fast hitch" (or whatever the 3 point hitch is called) on the M? Care to take a few pictures of it please? I'm thinking of putting one on the M, just not sure yet. Might find one for the Farmall 450D and leave the M alone.

TIA!

just a tish NE of central ND
The tranny used 80-90 wht gear lube . It is not a hydraulic reservoir. The belly cavity is made for a belly pump which is a cast iron case enclosed containing a reservoir(whole case is the reservoir) with the pump and valve controls/ pressure override inside of it. It is bolted in from the bottom up with ether 4 or 6 bolts and is a one way only hydraulic system that with a bit of use wont have much for high pressure.(gear pump wears and looses pressure.) it is not a live hydraulic pump. those have to b added to either the crank or more commonly to the cams gear between the magneto and the cam gear. Then need to add a tank and don't forget a filter in the system
I cant tell you for sure how the air cleaner canister is mounted for sure. Its been a while. It is an oil bath , not a filter and I cant remember it being band mounted. Seems it is bolt/ bracket on in front of the gas tank. There is a thumb screw band that holds the oil cup onto the main canister of the air cleaner.

The Fast Hitch first appeared on the Super C and later on the hundred series. It was never available for the M and would not be mountable without a lot of finagling. I wouldn't say it couldn't be done, I once designed and had built a fast hitch for a 3010 John Deere. Aftermarket 3 pt. hitches are available for the M and I have one on one of my M's. It is not for sale. If your M has the belly pump you can add a two way valve to run a cylinder. My other M has that.

Ask any questions, I do have a parts book or your dealer would as well. My Email is good as well. I grew up with M's similar to the ones I have.

Chebanse, IL.....

Here's a SM we finished up last summer. Do these photos of the air cleaner help? I think the SM & M had the same oil bath.

Thanks Hard Knock! I will have to do some hunting for hydraulic parts again!

John, I was wondering why I couldn't find anything about fast hitch with M's. What brand is your aftermarket if you know?

Ron, sharp tractor!!! That's the cleaner I have. You don't recall what those straps go to? There is something between the cleaner and the pedestal. That's what I can't recall. You jogged my brain some! Think there is a flat bracket that goes there and the straps just hold from it. Now to see if I have it still (if I'm right).

Just for the diagram, something like this on the 3pt:

Here's one mounted with a common brand name:

See them maybe $5-600 used now and then.

Saw this thumbnail pic on the Internet, maybe the bracket you are looking for?

I think someone built the 3 point, I got it on Ebay. There is a lot of stuff on Ebay for M's. Some of the aftermarket catalogs have 3 points, they are $500-700. Ebay may also have some belly pumps.

I would buy an aftermarket 3 pt. Saginaw is a good one. You would prefer a hitch on the 450 because of the live Hyd.

Thanks Guys!!!!

Paul, SNIT that's not the bracket I have and thought it was! MORE HUNTING.......great*****

Took a good look at the Saginaw hitch. Looks very well built. I have a live hydraulic pump (I think, haven't seen it in year or two, not top of the list)
but after those pictures, I think I will put it on the 450. Will be easier to keep it a clean install.

Only have a few months let to get her all buttoned up before it has to be at my wedding.
