Subject: A couple of my first leathercraft projects. (pics)

After completing a few of those beginner kits that you can buy, like coin purse and drink coasters etc., I decided to give a few things a try and see if I can do this.

First a I made a couple watch bands. I made the watch bands out of a remnant bag I bought at the leather craft store. It is to pieces glued together for the band to give it some body. This is the one I use daily, and I like how it fits and works. I made it so I can unsnap the top of the watch and change battery if needed.

Here is a tool cuff I made today since it was too cold to be outside doing stuff. It is a crude prototype so it is not very refined. But I wanted to see if it would work out before I made a nice one. I plan to use it in the summer when I wear shorts so I can still have my pen light and some kind of leatherman with me without the pockets of the shorts being over loaded.

The cuff is made of 8-9 oz. factory died leather. It was a whole side of leather, but in the remnant bin at Oregon Leather because it has a brand and a few injury scars. I liked that for other projects, so I bought the whole side for rem price. Oregon Leather sells mostly only leather tanned in the USA. Tandy leather has mostly imports, which is fine, but I actually watched the video of the tannery in Missouri "Hermann Oak", so I got to see where the leather comes from that I can buy.

My first hand stitch job. Turned out better than I figured it would.

I tried to make the cuff ends meet instead of over lap for comfort.

I made this collar for Oso a few days ago. I did pretty good on it. Even burnished the edges. I used copper rivets and then just tan coated it to seal it. On the D ring, you can see I tried to see if I can use my sewing machine to sew borders, but it does not work very well.

 Thanks for looking.

Cool stuff.

If you have an atv of some sort a good holder of tools would be handy. If you had a Harley you could make your own saddle bags.

central - east central Minnesota -

Looks great . . . I doubt you'll make it though a TSA check at the airport though ~  lol

Now, you've got leather down - how about taking it to the next step and imploy your metal working skills along with the leather skills.
Try making a set of Armor (like the knights wore) . . ..

There was a cool segment on Modern Marvels that show a guy that made armor and lots of leather was used in the armorment and there was leather armorments also (for the guys that couldn't afford the iron/steel protection).

Some leather chainmaille type garments would look cool ?

Thanks for sharing  !

WOW. That's awesome Ernie. I dont know how much carving I will ever do, but I sure do appreciate the talent it takes to do it. I'll likely stick to number and letter stamps. d:-)
