Paddles on beaters are shot but probably have hauled 1500 plus loads. Next spreader will be another hagedorn

We have a 5290 and have been really impressed with it. Like you I wish we had the bigger model, or they made a bigger one yet.

You should get one of these. We used this to haul the sand manure from our pits. A neighbor of my made it, after not being able to find one large enough for him.

They make good solid spreaders. If you want something a little bigger you might like a Wideman www.widemans.ca

I would be carefull with the widemens spreader, made by the  black hats and they are masters at making things on the cheap side

Don't mean to ressurect an old post, but I thought I could give some relevant info from the manufacturer.
We have just recently added a new model, 8610. Calculated at 770 Cubic Feet Heaped using the ASABE standard for capacity, it is about 50% bigger than our previous big spreader. Give us a call, check the contact page at www.extravert.ca. There is lots to talk about this new machine. Our website unfortunately does not have any information on this model, but your dealer may (should) have new brochures.

Hydraulic Push is how we do things. So yes.
Yes it has vertical beaters. We actually just had our website redone to include it. www.hydra-spread.com

Looks impressive, but the price tag seems out of whack compared to the 5290 or 5440.

What exactly seems out of whack?

Beware of the build and price feature when comparing models, some of the "options" are included in the base 8610 price, and you must add them to the 5290 or 5440. The "base" price for the 8610 includes everything.

I have a dealer that is supposed to price us an 8610.  Just going from "suggested retail price," it looks like I can buy the 5290 and 5440 at 83-85% of the suggested price.  That would put the 8610 around $83,000.  S&R mfg has a 700 bu spreader around $50,000.  It does look like the 8610 it bigger, and Hagedorn a more stable company, but the extra $30,000 is hard to swallow.  This is from the outside looking in, may be making judgements before the dealer gets me an actual price, but this is how I came with the conclusion that the price is out of whack.

I would look at some physical measurements. I cant speak to what S&R does, but I have noticed on a couple of our competitors websites that they appear to have converted from cubic feet to bushels incorrectly, multiplying instead of dividing. Either that or simply making the numbers up, cant be sure.
The way the capacities are reported in this industry is not very consistent, I am actually working with ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers) to try and create a more useable common standard for reporting spreader capacity. Hopefully that will help clear up the differences in how different companies report their spreader capacities.

I have heard from people that our 5440 can be loaded "close" to the capacity of some competitors 700 bu machines. If possible verify the internal measurements to make sure you are buying what you think your buying.

In time more of these units will get out and you might be able to go have a look at one.
