Just bought a 10 year old grooseneck trailer that has sat outside. Wood is still good. Wondering what would be best to apply to the wood to keep from rotting. Trailer will sit outside at least some of the time. What has worked for you? Thanks.

Go to a paint store and get a good penetrating wood preservative that can withstand contact with soil and resist UV radiation from the sun. Oils and linseed oil are OK, but the are apt to make the deck slick, especially when wet and they are no good against the sun.

Fresh, new ATF is great too. You can just roll it on with a paint roller. Give "er a couple heavy coats, and it will soak in, and not be slippery. Works awesome. Even stains it a nice red!

Have you ever notice how well the boards on a trailer hold up where oil/hyd.oil has gotten on them, 3 part used oil/hyd.oil, 1 part diesel, roll it on once a year, Cheap & it works

90+ degree day in direct sunlight and coat the deck with motor oil, use a broom to cover all the wood and let sit till you use it next. I do this every year and the wood is still as good it was from the factory. I my mind I am recyling the used oil, I guess you would call that repurposing the used oil.
