Anyone have opinions on a 7500 hesston forage harvester. Good things, bad things. Should I stay away from one? Can you still get parts? Have a gehl 1260 sitting in the shed and it is not doing me any good so looking to see other options

love gehl. We have been getting custom guys to cut for many years now. close to 10+ - . Gehl has sat that long and i didn't think parts were easy to get plus it has no processor for corn

you can still get parts but may have to wait for them. 1260 has pretty good capacity

yes it is and if it had a KP I would be using it, but no KP and waiting on parts when it breaks down gets me looking around and I saw this Hesston locally that looked good so I thought I would ask questions. its a 2004 and they are asking $9000 seems cheap. definitely would want to know the history on it

We have one at the prison farm where I work, and another prison farm has one too. You can get parts but they take a while and are expensive. We have a lot of trouble with ours but when we had a good mechanic who went over it like should be done it wasn't bad. I do know the big gearbox has been rebuilt or replaced at least every other year. We do about 3500 tons a year and between the Heston and a 5440 Jd self propelled we almost always have one in the shop.

I will say the manuals are very hard to read and the corn head sucks in short corn. It will chop heavy first cut hay at 9.5 mph. we had a lot of trouble with the kernal processor last year. We were looking at buying a rotary head but now they are talking about trading the whole mess for a real chopper, a new holland.

All in all if you need to chop more than 1000 tons I would pass.

Do a search, I think I have posted about ours before.

Would you mind telling us more about your prison farm? Sounds like a big operation. I didn't know they still had prison farms. Sounds pretty cool. Thanks.
