Northwest Iowa
Krause, case ih, John Deere or a Landoll.

Will get a rolling basket what ya think? Did it plug this spring being wet? I have gumbo soil and have corn on corn as well.

Would enjoy hearing your thoughts!
Thank you

I'm interested in opinions too. We're looking to replace an OLD tigermate. One thing I noticed between Landoll, Sunflower, and the new CIH's is that Case still has turnbuckle depth adjustment on each section vs single point depth control on the others. I'm thinking rolling basket too.

We ran a round bar "crumbler" behind the dmi and it plugged in the slightest bit of dampness. It seems like everybody's rolling baskets are redesigned though. No tube down the center of the basket like the old ones so maybe no more plugging.

PKf40 sounds like we are in the same boat. hope this can help us. biggest question is are the 190lb springs needed. the
landoll and krause have them. Case ih has only the 150lb springs. i was wondering for the heavy gumbo ground or is there is slight compaction in the first couple of inches of soil.
what do you think

I hate Krause. Had one and spent more time welding on it than using it. I'm staying with the DMI. Our 48' tigermateII has been an excellent cultivator. Other than the tine harrow. I'm going with a 5 bar drag next time.

Have a new CIH 200 and a DMI TigerMate11 , both with 3 bar flex and a single roller. No big deal on changing depth. Goes thru trash good, no problems with plugging

Really like our new Landoll. Does an excellent job and very good company support from Landoll on a couple issues we had. For sure get a rolling basket, never had a problem with plugging round bar basket on Landoll. Have a DMI Tigermate II as well, is does a good job, but like how Landoll folds up narrower on bigger models. DMI will be replaced with another Landoll when the time comes.

Case ih ones do a great job and the trash clearance is awesome. Have a 5 bar harrow on ours but would like the rolling baskets too. Next one will have them for sure.

Got a new 2210 Deere this spring and put a Salford Harrow/Rolling basket on it very happy with both, salford harrow/basket does an excellent job and DOES NOT plug in mud.

Thanks for the feedback! I just like the idea of single point because I have a 75 year old cultivator operator and I think it'll be easier to get him to make adjustments of he's got one screw vs 5. We farm everything from good black sand to low OM grey clay.

Running JD 2210's with rolling baskets. They have their fair share of issues, particularly with transportation. Light tires, hubs, bolts to hold rockshaft/lift components in place. But very pleased with the baskets. No problem in wet or sticky conditions. Really like how it takes the "fluff" out of the seedbed. No matter which brand you choose, I'd order the baskets.

NC Iowa
I would be impressed if someone could plug up the round bar baskets on a Krause. It would take an entire round of way to wet of conditions to plug, those little baskets are really turning fast.

I think the baskets really help in wet springs. There is a LOT of weight spread out across the entire cultivator on the rolling baskets, beats transferring all of the down pressure to the tires.

No complaints at all with our Krause 6200 soil finisher, it's amazing what it can go through and not plug. A soil finisher easily earned it's keep this year trying to take down 1-2' tall weeds, when regular cultivators couldn't even make a pass without plugging.

Like the CIH, but its time for them to up date it. Wish they would go to single point depth controll, I just don't understand why they have not done so yet.

We've run a 44' CIH 200 with a rolling basket for 3-4 years now. I've plugged 1' of a outside basket once when I was working into a really nasty wet spot that yielded almost nothing anyway. I kept going in a circle in the same direction... I should have gone the other way once. We do have some rock and of course we keep them all picked up :). I can remember one fist sized rock that I had to beat out of the basket bars. I really like the seed bed, especially the way most of the dirt is beat out of the last years corn root balls. I kind of prefer the turn buckle depth setting. I know it's old school, but once I got it set, I haven't moved it since, and sometimes the KISS method has a lot going for it.

On the down side, keep the rolling basket AWAY from the fence lines. Pulling pieces of barbed wire out of one with a plier is not the most fun way to spend a hour. I now carry a pincher in the tractor tool box. I incorporate 29/32% with chemicals with my digger. While the double frame on the 200 works great, it's a real b##$%h to wash. It usually takes me 3-4 hours and one sore back to do.

We've had several 2210LL John Deere field cultivators they're built like a tank. We run 200 pound shanks, 3 bar harrow with a rolling basket and pull j&m rolling basket s behind it. Don't have anything to complain about. Run case sweeps on it, found that they're the best bang for the buck.

why would you run a j&m basket behind the 2210 if it has a basket? is it not level enough or am i not reading your reply correct. not slamming you just curious, trying to learn. hope you understand.

Just finished my first year with a tiger mate 200 and the combination
coil tine/ basket harrow. The cultivator has incredible clearance and
The harrow was awesome. I got the flat bar basket, and the only
time it plugged was on the very end where the overlap was. I was
also filling in a lot of washes, some with water in them. The literature
says the round bar will plug in wet conditions.

As for the shank pressure of 150#. I just saw a presentation comparing
the case to a competitor with 200# shanks. The reason case doesn't need
that much pressure is due to the orientation of the shank spring. It is
basically horizontal, compared to vertical on others. It takes more pressure
with a vertical spring to hold the sweep point down in hard ground. The true
6" spacing also wears the sweeps evenly, not one side faster than the other.

Looked at a Wil-Rich? Best trash clearance on the market with the edge on shanks. Used to run the old vibrashank 4700's, didnt know what I was missing till we got the wil-rich. Only thing was the IH would level a little better but no contest in trash clearance. Never had a DMI but I'm sure they must be much better than the old IH design.

Unless Wilrich has improved it's rolling basket in the past years, I would stay away from a Wilrich. Don't like over built JD either, to heavy. It would be a CIH, Landoll or Krause.

Bought a Wilrich with harrow and rolling basket last year. No problems plugging in wet conditions and rolling baskets are holding up very well in our rocky country here. Very nice leveling job too. Not sure what problems they have apparently had but I would not hesitate to buy another one.
