Currently a local dealer has a 2009 MT975C with 800 metrics, we demoed it on our salford and we are pleased with it. We know the QT transmission's kick out sometimes while tiling. Just wondering if anyone uses a Challenger to pull there tile plow, how how they like it?

Matt, put a Steinbauer chip on it, for tiling, working on two tractors right now, Scott.

Why would you need a power chip on an 18L engine rated at 585 hp (425 PTO)? Even a 13L with 15-20 more hp can't touch that kind of power from 18L.

Pulling a Gold Digger ZD behind the 500 Quadtac. Got fed up with no power in first gear and also no low down torque. Got the Steinbauer chip set for tile plow tractor, installed it last week. WOW! Different tractor, it will now spin all 4 tracks @ 1300 rpm in 1st! No more lugging down to 650rpm and kicking in to neutral (ps. It is was never the kicking in to neutral that was the problem, this only happens at 650 rpm to stop the engine from stalling, which actually helps a lot so you don't need to restart every thing. It is no power in the low gears thats the problem, but the steinbauer fixes that)

A local crew here pulled their QuadTrac off of the tile plow and replaced it with a MT9X5B.

I'm sure there's a way to modify the tranny in the quad so it doesn't slip, just need time and motivation. Maybe if they put a heavy duty and reliable cvt in there new Quadtrac 620 (that supposed to be coming out soon) it will fix things.

Whether or not someone likes/dislikes Agco/Challenger the C-16/C-18 engine is arguably the best engine out there--power and torque are second to none. Not hard to see where it would be awesome on that slow heavy pull.

And they don't need power chips to pull either.

If you need a power chip on a the largest, most powerful ag tractors in production, you need to re-evaluate the application or get a D8.

Heard from challenger salesman today that this is the last year for CAT power in the 800 and 900 series tractors!!! Is this a good or bad thing?

need chips on the quad because the power is derated in 1st gear and it powers out. just need to get over that obstacle using the chip to do so.

Roaming the plains

You are comparing a tracked machine to tires.  A tire machine will slip on the tile plow where the tracks will not.  It's not a power issue but a traction issue.  AGCO, Case IH, and Deere manage the power in the lower gears, it's just that something has to give eventually so a tracked tractor has to due it mechanically where the tires will slip.

I have personaly never run a MT9xx pulling a plow. I love the MT8xx's though. I have talked to a guy that tried a quad and ended up with an MT 9xx. If they are geared like the tracked version, should be great.
