The old 8430 has worked good all spring, so today after getting the last field worked up I went to park the tractor, I put it in neutral, let up off of the clutch and it made this terrible grinding noise, it does it ever time I let up off of the clutch pedal even a little bit, what happened? I imagine its not cheap whatever it is. And I know, 8430s aren't ag talk approved, please bare with me.

Oh my god, your not running new tractors?!?!? How dare you!!! Sorry wish I could help. If it does it forward and reverse in all gears, I'd bet the clutch, perhaps a bearing on the input shaft but have ZERO experience.

Splined shaft that goes through the clutch? Don't remember the grinding, ours just stopped moving

I think the tractor is till in gear and moving forward so the park pawl is chattering.

If it's not moving when you let out the clutch, then I don't know. Drain transmission check screen looking for debris/metal?

Not sure but if it were a dry clutch Id say the throw out bearing. 8430 with clutch problems means splitting it, 30 hours would be my estimate
. May as well put in a clutch while your there, $5000.00 would be my guess in town.

Can you tell whether the noise is coming from the front half or the back half? I'm thinking that if you cant, the easiest way to isolate it would be to remove the front driveline and then start the engine and see if the noise is there. If so.....it is in the front half. If not......it's in the rear.

Thanks everyone for the reply's! when this originally happened it was in neutral and not moving. It goes in gear easily, but it just grinds so terribly bad when letting up off of the clutch, and as far as I can tell its in the front half.

Tractor has a wet clutch in it, and I've never experienced a failure of one of those.

Next part behind the clutch is where I've seen failures, in the carrier for the 2-speed planetary. You can pull the 2 speed out, without splitting the tractor. Put it in a hard right turn, remove the top shaft, and then pull the large round housing, where that shaft comes out.

Since it will easily go in gear, the 2 speed is where I'd start. No, it's exactly a cheap fix. If you have decent mechanical skills, and an IT/Tech Manual, you can save yourself a big labor bill and do it yourself.

I would guess its the splines on the input shaft.
