Gonna change the hydro oil, what should I put in that I already have around the farm?

Tractor hyd oil? 15 w 40?

I don't want to run to the dealer for just that.

TIA

Hmmm.. Hopefully someone WISE will 'chime in soon', but I can say that our Land-Pride and many others use an Air-Cooled Motorcycle Synthetic Engine Oil.. an odd classification like Mobil 20W-50 I recall..

Tough to find around here, but also EXPENSIVE to replace the Drive System if it 'goes away badly' I bet!!

I believe it is an '08 z force with a twin kohler engine, about 23 or 25 hp.

Ok, if i cant change the oil, what oil should i put in it if i have to add some? The 20 w 50?

Use a good 15w40. Some of the z force models had a small spin on filter on each transmission, some didn't. I'm not sure if they all have drain plugs. Filling can be very time consuming, have to fill through the expansion tank, and it has small hoses going to the transmissions. Hard to get the oil in and the air out. Most people never service the transmissions on these, although it may help them last longer.

I'm not sure, but if you ENTER your machine's info (Model and Serial Number) into here, you should be able to See/ Download a Manual I believe.. this is Canadian site, but guessing it will work for you, or maybe a USA source if you change Country..

I needed hydrostatic oil for an old 1812 (garden tractor type) mower .

Cub Cadet has a " Drive System Fluid Plus " Synthetic blend "hydraulic/ transmission oil" that cost me around $14/ qt at TSC.

I would think your mower would be new enough that it would use synthetic oil.

1812 uses HyTran, not the drive system fluid. When Cub Cadet came out with the 3000 series in 1998, they had not yet came out with the Drive System Fluid Plus which they use, so dealers were told to use 15w40 semi synthetic motor oil. I run Schaeffers 15w40 in the engine and transmission on my Cub Cadet 3000 series.

The synthetic wasn't what I was looking for, but it was the closest TSC had a few weeks ago. I wasn't thrilled about mixing the oils, but that mower isn't used as much as it used to be. It's working so far, my Cub dealer moved 15 miles farther away (was within 10 before), which put him 40 miles from where the mower is now used.

Too bad you don't live closer. I have an almost full jug in the shop from when I had my cub cadet. I always kept some on hand. Dealer was my local CaseIh dealer so I was usually there getting parts for my other stuff so it wasn't a big deal to pick some up.
