Subject: John Deere Planter models through the years?

I'm sure there is somebody on here that is very knowledgable about all the planter models that Deere has put out in the last 30 years.

I was wanting to know what the differences were in them.   What row unit they have,  what years they were made,  what type of folding style, rows, ect.

I know the 7000 is pull type,  finger meter,  4 to 24 row??
7100 is 3pt    finger meter any size to 12 row??
7200 is pull type Max emerge 2 Vac meter  4 to 24 row??
                  7300 is 3pt  Max emerge 2 Vac meter  4 to 12 row??
After that,  I get a little confused.  Tell me about
1700
1720
1750
1760
1770
1780
1790
Also
Max emerge Plus, XP, XPpro,   what are the standard features,  closing wheels, gauge wheels adjustment, rock guard, bearings?
Anything else you would like to add would be great.
THANKS

WC Franklin Co., In.
You could get the 7000 and I assume the 7100 as a plate planter as well. On a 17XX series, the last numbers tell you what kind of frame they used. That is my basic understanding at least.

runners and plate units. I wouldn't have believed it if I haven't seen one of my neighbors with it.

1700, 1700TR 1710, 1720, 1720, 1720TR, 1720CCS, 1730, along with all the "DR" series are all direct or "Integral" 3pt mount planters limiting them to vertical or stack fold versions only, check out Deeres website for specifics and combinations....to many to list.....
1750, 1760, 1770, 1770NT & CCS, 1780, 1790, and all "DB" planters are considered "Drawn" basically your front or wing type folding planters
MaxEmerge row units have been around since the 7000, basically a tru "V" opener, MaxEmerge 2 & Plus Row Units where narrower allowing for tru 15" planters to be built like the 7240 or the current 1780 where all the rows are side by side and staggered....not alot of differance in the two truthfully. The XP units where started in 2005 when they went away from the stamped and manufactured row units to a ductile cast iron machined unit, pro series are the ones with the little mini hopper on top for the CCS planters like the 1790, even though some 1770NT CCS are built with the MaxEmerge frame.....i think i am going to quit here, there are two many options to go through.....currently i think Deere claims there are over 9,000,000 combinations of planters that could be built just in current production models, not to mention all the others over the last few years!!!
