Looking at a few of these tractors and found a couple 6415s. What is the difference in this tractor from a 6410?? I know its newer. Is it a stripped down 6420 basically? They seem much cheaper than a 6420 and about the same as a 6410 but newer.
Thanks
Jerry

Yes, the 6415 is a stripped down 6420, not an "in-between" model. The chassis, hitch, three point, and axles are the same. Our 6415 has a more basic cab then the 6410 (although the same size). On ours the principle difference is in the transmission and hydraulics. 6410/6420 have 24 speed quad with reverser, 6415 has 12 speed synchro w/ reverser. 6410/6420 have the deluxe scvs with the control for hydraulic motors whereas the 6415 has a real budget connector without a flow control. I believe the 6415 also has much less hydraulic capacity. Some of this could be more differences in the options selected at purchase, rather then model, but it is how a ours are equipped.

In addition to what Aaron said, I think the air seat is only available on the 6420.

6415 has open center hydraulics, 6410 and 6420 have closed center hydraulics. We chose the 6420 only because it has closed center hydraulics and we have a couple applications that require closed center.

They could be ordered with either PFC (pressure flow compensating) or open center system. They weren't offered with hi capacity 3-point lift and manual linkage only for scv's. The PFC version had the manual flow controls that you could reach out the back window and adjust (if they weren't froze up). The hi volume hydraulic pump wasn't offered either.
I personally hate all of those 6XXX series tractors except for the 66XX because of the 4 cylinder engine vibrations. The exhaust pipe would shake off, engine dampener destruction, and drive line chatter beating the drive shaft between engine and transmission getting chewed up continuously other than that they're great little tractors.
The problem we had with all of them with hired help letting the engine idle for extended time and running at low rpm's. Our tractor would get 2,000 per year and that's a lot more than most people put of them so our problems would show a lot quicker than most.

PS I have 5, 6XXX tractors on the farm right now and had 8. Hopefully they're all going down the hi way soon!

Our 6420 is almost to 5000 hours in 3.5 years and I am pretty impressed with it so far. But it is operated by one person 90% of the time (yes, he is an employee)

I find that 90% of stupidity repairs are solved when one person is assigned to each piece of equipment most of the time. Not there on everything, but I'm getting closer.

Money doesn't seem to matter anymore just dope to most of them. The Mexican labor force is great for showing up for work most of the time but when they decide to "vamo nos" it's time for a replacement and nobody has made the farm stop until they get back either

Can't tell you for sure how to keep them, but I have had good luck the past few years. It can change at any time though. I decide who is key to me and who I can't afford to lose. That amounts to about 20% of the employees. I do what it takes to keep them. Make sure the middle management people treat others with respect. It all trickles down. I am more interested in the attitude of the person than the job experience. We can teach skills, but attitude does not change.

Recently had one of my better employees leave for "more money", same job. He came back recruiting and telling everyone how great it was. That was 3 months ago. He was back yesterday wanting his job back because the other people at the new job weren't treating him well. It was a great leason for the rest of the crew here. I think it spoke a lot about what I stand for and what I impress on the people that work here.

This may be totally off base with the #'s you're asking about but deere made some same sized tractor hp wise but were a lot different frame and maybe component wise. The one thing a remember was some had FRAME RAILS alongside the motor while on others the motor was the connecting link for the front end. I think there were 3 quality levels of the same hp class tractor.

You are thinking of the difference in the 5000 series to the 6000 series.  5000s have no frame link but are the same HP as the lower 6000s.
