Subject: 6430 premium vs standard...

N/E Iowa
I am in between a 6430 premium vs standard. One salesman says don't waste your money on a premium, because there are alot of things i wouldn't use.... The next farmer or salesman says they wouldn't be caught in a standard?? Now i'm more confused than ever!! I was told the standard hydraulics were slow, the cab was noiser, just a plain "poor mans tractor"... But i really dont feel like spending an EXTRA 18,000.00 to get into a premium series 6430... Here are some things i would be doing, mowing hay (10ft cut), v-raking, round baling 468 j.d., 310 bush tandem axle spreader, grinding feed, moving round bales, blowing snow, chopping stalks, 10x72 auger..
Head me in the right direction 6430 owners!! Thanks!

Active command seat is a must on rough ground.

standard series will do the jobs listed just fine . but dont load that spreader to much and weight the back for round bale moving . look at that you just made 18 grand . ha

Air seat is highly recommended. Premium is necessary running hydraulic motors.

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Had a standard at work for a while. Hydraulics were too slow for loader work. Boss eventually got out from under and got a premium.

I have a standard 7230 which is similar, just a little bigger frame. The hydraulics are open center where the premium is closed center. There is a big difference, and the open center pump is too small. Go premium if you can afford it. I have to run up my throttle for loader work and it really can't handle a vacuum corn planter if you want to use it for that. It works great on the round baler and moco though. I love it otherwise and the other differences are mostly bells and whistles.

we have one of each no power brakes and smaller seat with std. you don't think the brakes are any big deal until you get out of the prem. and into the std then try to stop or help turn on ends. The monitor screen displaying gauges is very nice, before shutdown at idle watching engine temp lower before engine shutoff. We ordered our std. new, at that time I thought it was only $5000 diff. std. to prem. will not own another std.

Buy the premium model you will not be disappointed. If you can find one with the air seat it helps alot, I have one that is very well equipped and like it very much.

Too make it turn shorter, iv'e been told that the stops have to be turned, and the rims have to be set out. Will i be able to still staddle 30 inch rows?

You have to set the stops so the tires don't contact the frame. Set for 60" centers definitively limits the turning radius. It is tough to turn around a 15' planter or drill. It would be better if you set them to say 64: OC. I have mine set for 60" OC for row crop work and then switch front tires side to side for haying to get 55" between the tires. Then you can reset the stops and turn much tighter.
