Montezuma builds all the boxes now if i'm correct. The old CPL's had latches on both sides. They then went to rotating handle in the center to lock the box. Newer style montezuma boxes use just a lift handle similar to a tailgate latch. I haven't seen a new CPL in years.

Sorry wheat77 but yes they are all made in china now. I think the old boxes that say cpl were made in montezuma, ks. Anything that says montezuma on they are now made in china. They don't not build boxes in montezuma any more and haven't for about 3 or 4 years now.

I could be mistaken, I just bought one of these a few months ago.
I did not notice where it was made. Too bad, and now I am dissapointed, if it is made in China.

Where are you located and where did you buy your box. Jrclowdis and I both live about 30 miles from montezuma. I went into the shop to get one of my boxes fixed and found out they don't really fix them anymore and all the new boxes were going to be build in china. I was shocked to say the least. I really fell out of love with them after that day. That was about 3 years ago, I haven't bought anything from them since.

I bought a CPL about 4 years ago when I was in college. It has stayed in the back of my truck most of its life. The paint has not faded away and has held up very well for never bein kept inside. A neighbor of mine has two that he put on a flat bed of his pickup about 2 years ago. They are rusting through now. I must of bought one of the last good ones.

I beg to differ. They are made in China now. The guy in Montezuma, KS soldout and now just warehouses in the states and does shows and such. Just like Traegar grills.

Here is the box that we have on a flat bed truck. We use it upon our farm for a service truck. We have a welder/gen. plus a gas air compressor; along with a Smell Tourch.
We like ours!!
perhaps the only major addition we would consider adding is another shorter box, the same height and style designed to hold some larger tools. ex. impacts, hammers, pry-bars, etc...
This is the box we have, we use the upper socket holders for SAE, and the lower for 1/2 inch impacts SAE.

Don't buy just one! As of Friday morning, I find myself in need of a new mobile toolbox... and a fuel tank, fuel pump, chains, towhitch, and the pickup to contain all the aforementioned items. I would like the big box capable of holding both SAE and Metric sets.

We have the large size CPL, believe it is a 750. It will hold 3 sets of SAE wrenches & 3 sets of metric wrenches. Also std & deep well 1/4", 3/8", & 1/2" drive socket set n both SAE . As well as a set of SAE & metric 3/4" reg length sockets. When I bought it I took all the tools out of a 13 drawwer x 72" tool cabinet & still had room in the CPL for more. FWIW, they do leak dust but not water. The hanging wrenches d bang against each other going down the road

Yes it is , it seems our culture wants to start out making what our grandparents took a life time of hard work to get . Two hundred thousand for a house , four car garge , swimming pool and that's all the first year when this new generation gets married and in debt . All of these is our fault , our government fault , and holly wood Telling our kids what is right from wrong instead of learning it from home and church . There fore we end up paying more for any thing made in the good ole USA . So dam sad and in the end we are all going to pay for this mess . I try very hard to buy American , and will usally pay more for the USA tag . Just like the cpl tool box ( montezuma mfd ) after the dad handed down the company , the new generation found they could get new workers probally less than half the cost in china then ship them here and market them . All for " money " . What hurts is all the awesome workers that were in Kansa that were put out of work , and our tax dollars giving them unemployment for two years , than probally tax dollars re educating them all because of a new generation love for the almighty dollar and the heck with the people that made them great and there name in every pickup and service truck in my area . So sad
