| I think all Hesston 84** series have 3000 hours on them, my 8400 has had 3300 hours since about 1998... Anyway, check for thin metal on the header slide shoes and the slide where the sickle goes into the gaurds, this is a good indication on actual hours (mine are razor thin at about 5000hrs). Check for smooth operation of the header (you should be able to turn the counterweight by hand and not have any 'catches'). Conditioner (crimper) will be getting worn by now; though still functional, they won't crimp as well as new. Check guards, they will effect your quality of cut the most, and can be no fun to change out. Header orbit motor could be getting towards the end of its life, but I don't know how to check that (they are spendy). Another area of concern might be the radiator (is it still open and good shape). I don't know which engine is in that 8450, but look over turbo area and check for leaks or problems (these swathers will use as much horsepower as you can throw at them I think).
These are very solid machines (imho) and hold together very well, and are the top of the heap in cutting ability (again, imho), not significantly different than much newer machines. | |
