WC MN & Valley of the Sun, AZ

First harvest with the Geringhoff and with the extremely dry corn at harvest this year, the tops of the plants are breaking off and building up on top of the feederhouse. We took the shield off that is in over the auger in front of the feederhouse and that helped quite a bit but still isn't perfect. Thinking about building an expanded metal shield to mount along the entire back of the head to deflect plant material down but wanted to see if anyone else had some tips on what we may be missing with the setup of the head.

I know the feeling. we would have to get out every couple of rounds and kick the stuff off so you could still see the snouts.

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
The picture looks familiar. Same story here with my Deere and 893 head. I carry one of those plastic garden rakes with me and store it between the cab and the grain tank. I've got so I can push the trash off without getting on the throat but I need to do this every couple of rounds.

Some days when there is a little wind, it will blow off while turning on the ends. No wind lately.

we have been having build up on the snouts and plugging this year, that looks good compared to what we have been dealing with

You need one of these: http://www.wajohnson.com/debris_deflector.php My 2388 came with one. It works really good. No more trash on top of the feederhouse.

That looks like that should work. See the same thing as the picture on the Geringhoff here.

That would definitely help. Thanks for the idea.

We have one of those and it definately helps. It won't completely solve the problem but its a heck of a lot easier to clean off that the feederhouse because its smooth. On days with a nice breeze it will clean itself off every time you turn on the end.
