Shaftsbury, Vermont (SW VT) | I haven't had Kuhn rake apart, but if they are made like the Krone ones we sell/service here, there is a spacer on the tine arm, and then a thrust washer, that are put on the arm before you put it out through the housing. Possibly someone has replaced those tine arms, and missed the spacer that was supposed to be transferred to the new part. I think the rake gearboxes are similar, if not made by the same company.
If you have a parts breakdown, you can see if those spacers are used on your rake. I hope the machine comes apart a little easier than a Krone that has spent time outside !!!
Good luck, and let us know what you find.

OOPS !
Edit: I recently repaired a Krone rake, and they had a habit of breaking the tine arms through one of the bolt holes. They moved the holes out a bit, and made the arms clamp on the shank to keep the flexing down. Compare the location of the bolt holes in your arms, if that's how yours are fastened. We had to also install different arm tubes on this one to compensate. I'll try and log onto the Krone parts website later to get a picture if I can.
