Anyone have any advice of feeding Brangus/Charolais cross cattle. A lot of 40 (20 steers, 20 heifers) 400# are up for sale. They want $1.70, but I'm thinking a $1.50. What do you think? How well do they do in northern climates? what weight do they finish at? How well do they sell compared to blacks?

Brangus type cattle dont do too well here in the cold months. They seem to get sick faster and when they do dont have much fight in them. I dont know if the charolais would help that or not. I know pink nosed charolais are not good either.

they're already there and acclimated ( good chance they'll out perform strait Northern cattle too ).
Otherwise you'll have to start em inside ( monoslope, hoop, garvo building ) if your hauling em up from S.
Keep in mind the afore cross is only 3/16ths brahma.
Know of a herd of strait brangus cattle that did fine at Midland SD for years ( brangus is 3/8ths ear ).

My Dad got a load of baldy cattle from central Nebraska years ago. They came in early in the fall. A few of them had a tick of ear on them. They were the smallest coming in, but they all went on the first load of fats sold, but they were a little nutty.

We bought a potload of Brangus cows in June, bred and they have all had their calves. They came from Ok the were a little skittish during the summer and not as friendly as our others. But when it came time to load they loaded the easiest, and their calves were the tamest. They seem to be doing cold in the cold we have had so far.

type winters. Put an angus bull on em and the angus plus calves have noticebly more thickness vs strait northern bred calves. Or use a herfy bull for super baldy calves. Or usa a char bull for the best black nose char angus calves that walk.
