I see alot of NH TS 100 tractors for sale at auction that have trans problems. Is it a commen problem, that's easy to fix or is the trans just under built for the tractor?

I"m thinking trans problems in general. I went to a surplus auction and they had 5 that had trans problems and another auction coming up with 10 more that are listed with trans problems. I didn't get a chance to see which trans these ts100's had or to see if the clutch worked.

Well, on the 4x4 transmission, ie, 4 spd with 4 spd powershift, I know the reverser is a little weak. They just use a synchronized reverser with a hydraulic engagement instead of a lever. Not the best setup. Under heavy loader use they will go out about every 2K hours. The newer ones they increased lube flow to the synchronizer pack, supposed to be better. How cheap are they, and how rough?

I think they were in the 2000-3000 hour range. In my opinion, the tractors were not too bad of shape but the side mounted flail mowers on them were ROUGH. Seems like they went for 7-8k, maybe someone else knows the exact prices.

Yeah, I was looking at a couple but they brought too much money for the amount of work they needed. I guess it's better to stick with a farmer type auction.

KY
Good rule of thumb, if its a roadside mower then run because it WILL be junk, period. Doesn't matter what brand. We have a large customer that mows roadsides and i've seen first hand the damage that they can do in a very short time.

First I've ever heard of transmission problems on those things other than odd electrical problems. One guy I know has roughly 10K hours on a 40 series with the same transmission and never a thing done to it.
I'd speculate that a lot of problems are caused or prevented based on the intensity of the lightbulb behind the steering wheel...
If they do have problems it's going to be expensive to fix. That I'm sure of...

That's why I didn't take a chance and buy one. If I see one at a local NH dealer getting worked on, I'll stop by and ask some questions on how they fixed it.
