Chebanse, IL.....

These are photos of Jon Kinzenbaw pulling the tractor at Half-Century of Progress (Rantoul, IL). It was announced this was his first time driving the tractor. I believe the sled was loaded w/it's max amount of weights. I was suprised how smooth the tractor sounded. It was timed perfectly, I'd say. As Tony said in a prior post, on the first run, Jon used too high of a gear. He made a 2nd pass using the correct gear/speed. I'd estimate he was still going 8+ mph (video later). He pulled it down pretty hard at the end (after shifting) & I was thinking things must've been built pretty tough throughout. Last photo is my brother Larry w/Jon prior to the pull demo. Jon is obviously the one w/the Kinze hat. A very humble & personable gentleman.

That goes without saying.  It came out of Kinzenbaw's shop.

Great picts, thanks. Who would have ever dreamed of putting 2-855 Cummins in one 8850. One would be enough.
JD needs to hire Kinze as a new tractor developer, but I doubt they could ever pay him enough.

There are some pictures of the drive line on another post but I don't remember who posted them.

Ron, did you learn any history on the 855x2?

Is that just something Jon Kinzenbaw threw together in his spare time?

That was quite the test run in front of a crowd.

And thank for sharing the pictures.....

Ron, now I really wish I could have stayed an extra day. Your night photography came out really well. Nice job.

I really didn't think the u-joints on the shaft going into the transmission were large enough to take both engines. I guess I was wrong!

Omar

Thank-you for the compliment, I value all comments, especially those coming from you!

I'll put up a YouTube later today & you can see & hear the 855x2 pull. I'm not sure of what h.p. those 855s were, perhaps someone else here knows?

Also, the tractor pull on Sat pm was quite an event. Though we've pulled at approximately 15 events thus far this summer, I'd say this was one of the largest crowds. I really couldn't believe how late people stayed. Often you start losing your crowd about 10 pm. But not at Rantoul....they stayed!

Here's a couple more from Sat pm....the 1st one is a 1911 (100 yrs old now!!!!) J.I. Case 110 hp steam engine putting on a "spark show". The wind was blowing from the NE at about 15 mph last night. Omar, the track was totally unlighted...pitch black. I shot w/no flash, 1600 ISO, 1/5 second.....your thoughts?

The second is one of the "stock" classes they ran early in the pm. This young man is local to my area w/a nice wheel-standing '49 JD R. They termed this a "4-plow" class. There were 35 participants in the 4-plow class alone!

Ron, my first thought is I wouldn't want to be the guy on the sled with all those sparks. I think you picked the right settings for the photo. You could have gone to 6400 getting a 1/20 shutter speed, but then you'd lose the spark trail effect. Maybe the steam engine would be sharper, but I'd take your image the way it is. Modern dslr cameras can do some amazing things when used right.

I see you captured a smoke ring from the R. I watched an 830 (I think) blowing rings plowing (or was that "bottoming"?). I couldn't capture one in a photo though. Timing was off.

In my opinion, Jon will go down in history along with John Deere and Cyrus McCormick.
