Kansas
60 or 80hp and you could get them MM gold, Cockshut red, Oliver green, or standard White silver. I thought they always looked like a nice tractor for the size. Anyone have/had one? Good tractor? I guess the ones painted different are hard to come by, the old White dealer I used to know told me reason why is because they wanted $600 more for them, and most didn't want to pay for a different colr.

Southern Middle Tennessee
These tractors were a really good tractor. They had the small cummins motor in them. I think its a 3.9 litre. THe 80 was turbocharged. They are a handy little tractor to have around the farm. I'd love to find one in good condition. You're right though, most are silver in color. I've only seen a few that were painted red, yellow, and green. There was a slick Silver 80 with a cab on tractor house a few months ago. Not sure if its still there.

I had a 60 4x4, parts are hard to get. 60 was a 1555, 80 was a 1655. The 60 had square cut gears I think, any way,it shifted hard , tranny was noisy and would barely pull its self in road gear. The 80 was a much better tractor ,the only complaint I've heard is 15 gal. fuel tank ,outside of that vary good tractors.

Iowa

Thery were a solid, no frills tractor.  It's the oliver 6 speed non sycronized transmission, but it's not hard to shift if you're used to it.  The three speed powershift holds up well other than sometimes having to replace the electric toggle switch used to shift it.  The hydraulic capacity is a little slow by today's standards.  Power steering is very good and fast.  It has a dry clutch, but it does not cost a fortune to replace the plates.  The brakes are not good.  The Cummins engine is great.  Three point hitch is strong for a tractor of that size.  Road speed is sub 20 mph.  The pfa is very good and solid.  It starts well in cold temperatures, but could sometimes use a bigger battery to turn it over.  The foot throttle is a nice touch.  Paint is of poor quality.  As noted above, the fuel tank is not very big.  On the other hand, dumping in a five gallon can of fuel will go a long ways with this tractor.  The input transmission shaft is driven with the old sprockets butted together with a double chain wrapped around them.  It's something to keep an eye on if you are doing a lot of hard pulling with it (easy to work on if open station, but not sure about the cab tractor).

Overall, it's not as refined as most others, but it would cost a lot to replace it with something better.  I bought one slightly used with a loader.  It's gotten a lot of the not so nice jobs for the last twenty years and has about 7500 hours on it.  I am not in any hurry to replace it.
