K&O Grain Express

Anybody have one of these. It doesn't add up. It has two 10k axles under it. (400 bu X 60lbs)=24000 lbs plus the weight of the trailer (maybe 3500lbs) would equal 27500lbs. That would leave a pin weight of 7500lbs. I think this would bottom out most pickkups. I know my old truck would pull it, as I did pull a wagon in the field before.

Seen them advertised before, not a bad idea for a pup trailer, I wouldn't bother with it behind a pickup.

And how many Dodge's or Super Duty's look like that with a loaded livestock trailer in tow? Or a 25' or 30' flatbed gooseneck with a load of round bales? Same difference.

I ordered one of these Grain Express trailers a couple of weeks ago. They have the option of putting 2-12,000 pound axles on (about $1200 more) or 2-15,000 pound axles (about $1600 more) over the cost of the standard one with 2-10,000 pound axles. I did the same math as Mrsc and I went with the 12K axles. According to tests done by K&O Mfg. a loaded Grain Express trailer transfers somewhere between 3500 and 4000 pounds to the towing vehicle - no different that any other gooseneck trailer.  Ford "brags" that if you properly set up one of their new F-150 pickups, it can handle a 3000 pound payload! So why would a 3500 - 4000 load be too much for a newer 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck?

I don't understand all of these people who want a heavy-duty pickup for pulling heavy loads, then when they have one they don't want to pull any heavy loads behind it because it might be hard on it!

Spending $10,000 for a 400 bu grain trailer to work the snot out of a new $40,000 pickup doesn't make a lot of sense when you could buy a single axle tractor and a 600 bu single axle trailer for ~ $15,000.

 

Then you can haul 600 bu, have a bigger motor, more importantly bigger brakes and won't be wearing out an expensive pickup.

 

Remember this is only my opinion, you are free to do whatever you want.

 

The only way I care what you do is if you hit me because you can't stop a 12 ton load with electric brakes.

local to peoria guy as of last year, brings in a old steiger with singles, and 2 old wagons to adm in peoria and dumps. so why not. question though, wouldnt these be over the GCVW rating on a dually truck? 25-26k?
