Subject: JD IVT TRANSMISSION

Does anyone have any experience with these type of transmissions? If so, good or bad? How are they under a load? Any info would be appreciated.

using two 8530s pulling KMC rip n rolls. IVT works pretty good, if you get in a really hard pull an A will come on the cornerpost and it will slow down to a speed it can manage. No problems from the transmissions yet.

Have a 7830 ivt that I use for a planter tractor, 1000hrs and no problems. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it, but the more I drive it the more I like it. Found myself this fall wishing the 4wheel drive had it.

I've got 3500 hrs. on my 2004, 7920 with only 1 minor tranny problem. I think IVT's are great. They do require a learning curve compared to conventional type trannys.

In your place last spring, bought an 8230 with an IVT tranny. Put 500 hrs on it this year, in heavy tillage (30' FC, 6 bottom plow, subsoiler) the transmission pulled as good as a powershift. One thing I noticed is that when running tandem plowing with our 8300 powershift was that on the ends when you first started the tractor would slow down then build speed up to the set speed, this was more evident especially if it was a hard pull. On lighter loads there was a significant difference in fuel savings. Not so much on the heavy work. Pulling a Pickett Twinmaster bean combine it worked well there with not having to be constantly shifting between gears, alot smoother. Overall in my experiance it was a good tranny no problems, not sure if i prefer it over a powershift though.

john deere claims it to be an indestructible transmission, but they were proven wrong when the nabors have there 8200 on a grain cart and they took out the tranny on it this fall on the 8200 with the ivt

Smoke, what do you want to use the IVT for? That determines whether you will like it or not.

We have an 8430 IVT on the planter....I hated it the first day, still can't stand using it on the scraper(so I don't) but now I love it for planting. The tractor runs at 1300 a lot of the day, We've gotten over 600 acres on a tank, much better than our 8410 with powershift.

I don't understand, ran my 225R 2 days on a scraper and loved it. So seemless, way better than a PS.

i agree, i love our 8320r on the scraper. It takes a little time to get used to the IVT and how it reacts and how you need to react to control it. That being said the more I run it the more i love it.

I guess that's why I'm the oddball here. I have ran a ps for many hours in many tractors. I still like it, works for me. IVT didn't impress me at all, glad everyone likes it.

My scraper might be a little too big for the tractor could be the biggest problem. I like the powershift better 'cause I just pick the gear and run the throttle up and down. I had trouble with the ivt being as quick as I wanted it. Maybe just in-experience with it.

I ran our 8330 with IVT on a 13 yard scraper when our 8530 was tied up on the beet lifter, it was short, but just loaded it less full, the 8530 weighted down handles the 13 yard great. On both tractors i would run with the selector in off or deep tillage postion depending on how aggresive my cuts were. Real nice for running loads futher out in the field, no gear hop.

Chebanse, IL.....

We're operating 2 IVTs right now (8320R) & they're just fine. Our next tractor will also be IVT. As I've said before, I wish the 4wd tractors offered IVT as an option.

Only a minor adjustment needed thus far & that was by a mechanic w/a laptop.

I have a 6430 IVT and love it. I am doing light work though, baling, raking, scrapers, fertilizer spreader. Love all the settings and can get the exact speed I need running at 1200 rpms all day long baling. Has economy pto for light work running 1680 rpms. Burns half the fuel of my 6420 PS. Wish I had a loader on it. Also goes down the road 27 mph at 1550 rpms. Only tractor to buy for that size, 95 hp. I am sure you are looking at the bigger tractors though.

6420 with IVT is my favorite machine as well. You would have never thought about just how handy the IVT in that size of tractor until you have one. Haven't spent much time in the 7520 IVT and when I did it was all one speed tillage or landplaning.

It is the handiest baling tractor I have ever run. I love not having to do anything but roll the wheel. I can just click the wheel up or down to make the perfect bale most every time. For a hay farm that ivt and economy pto are priceless.

We've put 1000 hours on our 8130 with an IVT doing everything from tillage and planting to grain cart work, and the hardest job for any trans, PACKING SILAGE. So far so good. I wish we had IVT tractors back when we ran PT combines ten years ago.

Do you think they are a high hour tranny or something to get rid of when they get a few hours on them. How many hours are to many for a ivt.
