Agree, our tandem has one with an Allison auto. With a full 18' box, we don't pass anybody.

I'm not impressed with ours in a Kodiak, Allison auto and 18 foot box. Ours is hard starting, even with the heat chamber it takes several attempts to get running. If it's a GM make sure you install in-line check valves in the fuel lines as they have a tendancy to leak air. To quote someone last year, "I would rather go back to steam as a 3116". I would never buy another. JMHO, Joe.

You have something wrong with yours, possibly the rail needs to be run. We have one with just a 16x50 box, I can run 70 loaded and my worst hill to the elevator with is a bear with the gassers, I'll be doing 65 cresting it. We had some trouble after we bought it but found the right guy for the engine and we have a very good one now.

This is the second engine in this truck. First one didn't have any power either, (250 hp), even before it dropped a valve. I priced a reman and decided against the $11-13K price tag after installation. Probably should have gone that route and upped it to the 300 hp version cause this used engine isn't panning out either. The truck is ok for short field to farm trips but not for the hour trip to the barge. Joe.

Thats funny........3116s are fine when they are running good. They are no fun when they don't run good. The older ones with the mechanical rack are a pain to setup and adjust. They are a pain to replace injectors in. The "E" models are much better as they are electronic, and have no rack and an simpler fuel system. I had a C7(Acert 3126) for quite a while in a 25,000# service truck and it ran OK, fast enough to get break the speed limit.

I like my 5.9 cummins engines better though.
