Subject: Skid Steer Tree Saws - Which One?

North Central Kansas
In the market for a tree saw for a Bobcat 773 Skid Steer Loader. There are more manufacturers than you can shake a stick at, and I don't know which one to buy. I'm looking for speed, one that can run on 17 gpm, and durability. Price is an issue, but I'll pay more for a good quality unit that can stand up to heavy duty cutting. I farm, so it won't be commercial use, but it's got to stand up to a lot of use, as I have trees that vary in hardness from mulberry to cedar, and a wide range of diameters; mainly 14-inches and smaller. I have large areas that need to be cleared, and I don't want to hire a dozer.
I have a tree shear, and while it has its good points, it is too slow and just can't handle the bigger stuff like I need.
I suspect many of us have had these similar questions, but there doesn't seem to be any great resource for information on the Internet.
I want to know what brand of tree saw you prefer and why you like it/don't like it.
Thanks in advance -
Wildcat Willie

I really like the looks of these saws. They have a low flow model like I think you would need. I've been looking at them myself just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I also like the looks of the Turbo Saw. Turbo saw is a little less money then the Harleman. Good luck Darren

You might take a look at the "Marshall Tree Saw".  It is one crazy beast of a saw.  There is (or at least there was) one in the area a couple years ago that was claimed to have cut   +36"  trees with little effort other than moving the skidsteer around the tree to make different cuts to get through the entire diameter.  It had been used on over 200 acres by the owner and he had purchased it used, -- he had very good things to say about it.

I like the design of it, it's a sheer/saw combination.  The teeth 'grab & cut' at the same time so the sheer action doesn't slide the skidsteer away from the tree.

It is a fairly heavy unit though so it might be a bit much for a 773, don't know for sure.

fwiw, I've got a hyd post hole digger from Harleman Mfg. and I really like it -- he hadn't started building saws yet when I bought the phd and I haven't seen any of them except in ads.  Nice outfit to deal with though.

There are a lot of cedar tree cutters around here and they all use the Marshall tree saw, they are impressive to watch.

I have a Harleman Tree Saw and it is a quality machine. Buddy has a Turbo Saw, can't keep a set of teeth in it. You hit a rock or T post and there goes a set of teeth. He borrows mine when he needs to cut anything bigger than 2-3 inches.
