I;ve got servral that the tops are starting to show rust. Whats the best thing to paint them with? I was thinking about the stuff you put on mobile homes but I thought I might get another opinion. Thanks

Slicker than a Yes album.
Either Rustoleum galvanizing paint or the spendier Diamond Vogel galvanizing paint

You guys got lots of expensive suggestions. Simple asphalt/aluminum bin paint will do fine for far less money.

Our experience has been that regular aluminim paint will last two or three years at best in our humid eastern climate. We have been using a commercial painting company that does alot of grain elevators and barns with much longer-lasting results. They sandblast the worst rust, water-blast everything, and apply Sherwin-Williams DTM primer, and top coat with S-W commercial latex. Good for 10 years even on a rusty bin. I like doing it once and not having to keep spending time and $ every few years.

I just paid some gypsies $300 to paint 3 bin tops for me. They used aluminum roofing paint.

The head guy even had a southern accent and talked really fast.

southern Illinois
I painted a barn roof with rustoleum aluminum paint and needed about 1/2 gal to finish and they were out of it so I just picked up a gal of aluminum paint. Twelve years later the rustoleum painted part is dull but rust free and the area painted with just the plain old aluminum paint is rusty like it never got painted.
I know what kind I will buy next time.

I just had a guy with a southern accent stop last week and offer to give me an estimate to paint/regalvanize by bins......................I declined but have noticed more and more 40 year old bins in my area that have shiny new paint on them over the past several years. I wonder what is the point.....................but my bins are only 25 years old, maybe I will change my mind in 15 years.

The point is to not have your bins rust away.
