Can you tell me the current rules regarding where a 2500 head hog finishing barn can be built in Iowa. How many feet from occupied dwellings, creeks, etc.? Do they measure from the house or property line of an acreage and how much land is required for a manure easement for that size barn? Thanks

in iowa they fly over with a plane throw a rock out the window, where it lands is where you build, how many times it bounces is how many you can put up lol

WC Iowa

takes about 500 acres in a corn/sb rotation
our house is closer than the requirements, they measured to the house itself, but we own the barn and the land, so farm credit had us sign off on it.

Under 2500 hd of finishing has to have 1250' from the building to the house for a new site if I remember right. Its either 1250' or 1320'. For expanding an old site I think it is 1000'.
Over 2500 hd is more but I don't know how much more.
If you grow cont corn and aren't limited by P you will need around 250 acres for the MMP.
Corn/bean rotation would be roughly double the acres, might be able to get by with 400-450.
Starvation has obviously never been through the paper work to put up a hog building or filed a CNMP/MMP.
