Subject: 7810E Gehl loader questions

Have a gehl 7810 E skid loader with about 400 hrs. so far. Finally took it in for warrenty work that's been put off for quite a few months. A/C Fan broke it's mounting twice
dropping on top of the engine. Not even sure if it ever did work because the door is removed for 5 months of the year. Broke a pin inthe lower lift boom near the rear lower area. That should not break. Pin would have fallen out if not having the tire sidwall stop it slide out. Did not do the tire any good thou. Starter is starting to fail. very slow cranking latley. Cables are tight. Quick dissconnect on the attachment has to be kept very clean and lube or it hangs up with the electric drive for the pins. It works but sure looks like it should have had more force to push the pins.
All and all it's a very stoute machine that has increadiable lifting force with the highest height reach in it's class . I was wondering if i others have simular problems with their Gehls. Previously I had a gehl 7600 skid loader and this is quite a improvement over that.
Thank you for your responce.

We have 2 7810's we have had some problems but we put up up with them is there nothing that lifts as high or as much. The lower pin should be greased very often as they can seize which I would suspect in your case. We just got done replacing all bushing and most of the pins but they both had over 3000 hrs on them. We put grease zerks in all of the pivot points that didn't have zerks as we had trouble with sand causing the pins to seize up. The grease helps to push the debris out of the pivot points in my opinion. The electric ram on the quick-tach sucks but will work if you keeps the pins greased and if they still stick dump some oil down of the pins, there again they seem to get jammed with sand. I was told the have a hydraulic kit for the quik-tach. Also the electric ram will bend making it slow without much power. The next time one of them bend we will be converting it to hydraulic. You think the idiot who designed the electric ram would make it heavy enough to burn out the fuse before bending the shaft

Hi. We have an 04 7810 with electric perkins. I do not like the engine. The auto glow plugs dont come on until about 20 degrees f. It starts very poorly, sometimes smokes, sometimes not. Does your starter spin the motor over very fast, ours is draggy weak and just had a new gear reduction starter put in that didn't last 10 starts and god draggy. Do you rely on the onboard codes (cycling key off-on two times). Ours show about every code possible, dumb thing. We bought it with 400 hours and it still is the same at 950. Thanks for the info.

Sorry we have Cummins but check the battery connections where there is a junction in the cable that become corroded on one of ours,

The pins on the rear lift mechanism appear to be sliding out. We had them replaced in a shop about a year and a half ago--the lift bar/frame actually bent, but the shop was able to bend it back into place. Since we noticed the pins sliding out again, we have quit using it until we figure out if we can replace the pins ourselves, or if we need to take it in. My understanding is that the fuel tank sits close to the pins. Is this real complicated? We replaced some pins on our payloader late last summer and that went okay. Skid steers have such limited space that I'm wondering if we can handle this ourselves.

Yes, I have some problems with a 7810. Very poor performing perkins starter and poor starting engine. I too put zerks on the pins that have an align instead of a zerk. What cables of yours are giving trouble? The next one I get will hopefully have pilot controls. The grouser tracks made ours a real machine in the field. The quicktach is a poor design. Just keep the pins lubed. Goodluck and keep us updated. How do you like the Cummins? Our 04 with a perkins had a battery update before we bought it used that replaced one battery with two. Seems stupid that they can't build a four cylinder engine that one battery won't turn. They knew they had trouble. The starter wasn't even a gear reduction, and it weighed very few pounds.

The 7810 e has the cummin's . Been starting great untilll latley. I think when the machine is killed while using the hydraulic pressue is not draining down quick enough and loading the starter when restarting. Need a amp clamp on it to verify. i did not know they make a hydraulic cylinder pin kit for these machines.

starting any engine with a hydro is a lot harder b/c the hydro takes power to turn especially in cold weather when the oil is cold. I have found that the cables going to battery can come loose inside the crimp so I replaced them with ones that can be soddered which helped a lot.

Are you saying the machine can stall out while operating to kill it. Then when you go to restart it immediately, there is pressure? I always use the foot throttle and seldom run WOT, but have a hard time killing it. I can, but it is pretty hard to.

I guess we've had about the same problems with our 7810E. About 2400 hours on it I think. Replaced pins as dairyman78 did. Warrenty didn't cover it because they claimed it wasn't greased. It was greased whereever they left a zerk. Had that pin behind the tire come out once or twice too. Otherwise it's been a good machine for us. As mentioned nothing comes close to it's capacity. We use it every day in the bunker silo, digging out silage. Sure lasts a lot longer than a smaller sized machine. Seems like our 08 machine has fewer problems than or 06 did. We did have the starting problems with the 06 when we ran it into a pile and killed it. Didn't always like to start when it was hot and killed like that. Guess we haven't cleaned the barn with the 08 to compare if it does the same in that application.

have a 7810E with 600 hours. Anyone having fuel problems? We have changed both, filters and water separator twice and the machine will run for awhile and then fall on its face and blow white smoke. We have been blowing backwards through the fuel line and it will run for awhile then the same thing will happen. Now it happens quicker. anyone have any ideas or similar problems. i hope i don't have to pull the fuel tank. any advice would be appreciated!!!!!
