Does anyone know how dry distillers grain compares to other feeds such as wet distillers or silage or beet pulp pertaining to weight per cubic foot? I need to know if a low sided 42' live-bottom can get a good (legal) load of DRY distillers grain on for a long haul (300 + miles). I don't know exact cubic ft. of trailer. The trailer will hold approx. 1000 bu corn.
Thanks in advance.

Dry distillers grains have a bulk density of 30-40 pounds per cubic foot. 1.25 cubic feet in a bushel of dry corn (56lb). Roughly 44.8 pounds of corn in a cubic foot. So ave. distillers (35 lbs) would give you 78% the weight of 1000 bushels of corn (56000 lbs). Your load would be roughly 43750 lbs. If my math is right please check it. Hope this gives you an idea.

If all you can get on is 1000 bu of corn then it is going to be awfully hard to get on anymore than 22 ton of ddg.
I run two 42X72X96 timpte's with standard hoppers. Those things will hold over 1200 bu of corn but it is all we can do to get on 25-26 ton of ddg. That is windrowed front to back up to the bows.
