Southeastern, IL
We bought a 1790 16-32 row planter. The hitch has 2 hole settings for the planter. One is down the center and one is offset 7.5 inches. What would be the reason for moving the hitch over vs just changing the markers differently on one side vs the other? I realize that with the 32 row if i move the hitch over the planter will have the same distance on one side vs the other. I cant see having to move the hitch just to balance the draft difference of one row. I have also seen the same hitch on 31 rows, and that is what i dont understand the need to move it on the 31 row planter. Must be something i am not thinking about. Thanks

The row units are not evenly spaced on both halves if i remember right, have to move hitch over for beans and the markers. Hard to remember from this spring without looking.

Moving the hitch will allow you to put the tractor right down the center of the row and plant beans on either side of the corn stalk row when notilling, it centers the planter behind the tractor. As far as seing it on the 31 row that is probably because they use the same hitch for all planters rather than have two different ones in inventory.

What I want to know is why they don't make a 3.5" offset so you can run down between the old corn rows and plant 15" beans with the 1590-1560-750 box drills.

There is a guy in southern Illinois that makes a hitch to offset your planter without having to take it apart. You just unhook and move over to the next pins. Worked pretty slick especially if you were using tracks as we are.

Yeah, it works pretty slick. I can switch in about 2 minutes. You can run the offset on your GPS but the tractor tires are then running on the stalks. I move my hitch and the tires and units do not run on the stalks. 16/32

How can you switch in 5 minutes? Do you have a jack stand to hold up the planter when trying to change hitch? I can see if you have the backhoe or forklift handy. That wont do us any good when we are miles from the shop.

Just fold it to transport without lifting the wing wheels up, unhook the tractor, loosen the nut, get a buddy to lift the other side, pull the pin out, move the hitch over, insert the bolt and tighten, hook the tractor back up.

When you unhook your 3pt hitch why wouldnt the tounge just fall to the ground or is there some kind of a latch or pin you install to keep the hitch fastened to the wings of the planter? I guess it really doesnt matter since i still couldnt do it since only one person is usually planting.
