hello Is was thinking of getting a 4720 with a loader for doing jobs in the yard. will they lift 1000kg? will they pull a small 3pl disc? or are they a big lawn mower? thank you.

Ethridge, TN
I've got a JD4520 Compact. Pretty handy tractor to have around, as it it'll get in those tight spots, but has a fair amount of guts to it. I have the self-leveling loader on mine, with pallet fork attachment, plus the heavy duty bucket. It's like most JD, in that it'll lift more than the rear will hold down. I usually figure 1000lbs, and I can still move, without hanging something on the rear end.

Handles a 7' bush hog, plus I use it quite a bit on the 12' pull type box blade for doing drives and such, just cause you can turn around and get into tighter spaces than with a standard size tractor. This one has the hydrostat drive, which is very handy, and has held up well. There a bit pricey, when compared to a full size tractor, but it has been worth it to me.

They make 2 loaders. The 400CX is non-selfleveling and is rated for 2194 lbs full height at the pins. I have the other model, the 400X, which is selfleveling and rated for 2368 lbs full height at the pins. I have a 2009 4520 cabbed (60 hp engine). Much more than a lawn mower. In fact, it is on the large size for mowing grass. A 4520 equipped the same as a 4720 is about 2k less. I didn't feel it was worth 2K for 6 more hp and otherwise the same tractor. The 4520 had the hp increased to 60 hp from 53-54 hp in 2009. The 4720 was bumped from 58-59hp to 66 hp. I have ag (R1) tires. Has more power than traction. Open station weighs about 3700 lbs, add 600 lbs for cab. I have additional 440 lbs of wheel weights but can go up to 660 lbs. You will need more rear end ballast with heavy lifts to get maximum stability. Either put on attachment or load the tires. With no rear end weight, the loader will easily lift the rear end. Pulls a 6 foot 3 pt disc with ease. I turned the hydraulic psi from 2500 to 2750 to get a little more lift. Easy to adjust and checked with pressure gauge.

I had a cabbed 3720 (44hp) and construction tires (R4). It had poor clearance and no traction in mud. Tires were also much smaller in diameter. That tractor had outside wheel width of 59". It always felt like it could easily tip on hillsides, esp with loader. The 4x20 with ag tires set at 72" fits 30" rows better and much more stable.

For loader work, mowing ect go with the hydrostat. It is fantastic. You will lose some hp to the ground with HST, but unless your doing a lot of tillage work, the HST is the best choice over the power reverser. I do a fair amount of mowing and also have the economy pto. Allows the pto to run a 540 with engine rpms reduced about 25-30% if the mowing is not too tough. Mine is sitting on the auger as I type. (Waiting for better weather.)
