Dennison,MN

I am searching for a gooseneck trailer to haul a skid loader and a narrow front tire tractor. I see a lot of brands out there . which are the good brands and ones to stay away from .

Sure see a lot of load trail here .

Friend has one , very nice trailer with a price to match .

They make one that’s built like a semi trailer , same design .

It’s the nicest gooseneck I have ever seen .

Have had a few Big Tex and Load Trail trailers. Might be a step below Diamond C in the quality department, but they have held up well for us and pricing is lower. Have not bought a new trailer since inflation set in.

Tilt deck is nice for skid loader, probably want triple ramps at a minimum for narrow front tractor. Full witdth ramps are nice but stupid heavy depending on trailer model and lift assist design. If Im home in the yard I flip them with a forklift.

I have a Titan 'lo ride' with full width ramps, and my 12 year old daughter could flip the ramps. Drawback is that it is not a deck over, it does have drive-over fenders.

There are a lot of deltas out there. Seem to be good. PJ is cheap junk in my opinion. Dont know much about others.

As load seems rather lite. I think any would work. Long as axles rated for load, you get decent +70 grade chains, DOT approved….
Now to toss you a curve. Think future. Unless having too heavy GVWR can hurt you in future. *yes that is REALLY insane* if it’s GVWR over 10k, beyond 150 miles it might require a CDL, in some cases…
But you will be hauling something heavier, someday. I would CONSIDER a hyd dump trailer. If you ever think you would need it.
We don’t know your truck, expirence.

Take a look at Sure trac, They have a "mega ramp" option that you would need for a NF tractor. The two ramps are the full width of the trailer. When folded up they make the trailer flat for an extra 5'. Bought one in 2019, been very happy with it. The full ramp also gives a little more confidence when loading a skid steer as well (that was why I went with that).

We chose a Trailermann 30 foot power tail, after considering themn Diamond C, and Sure-Trac. Diamond C was more than we could spend. Sure-trac seemed like a well built trailer, but only had two hinge points for the power tail and the tail latch was on the cylinder, not the frame. My Trailermann has a fully hinged power tail and latches against the frame rails.

We haul antique tractors, seed, lumber, steel, and anything else we could need to transport. Real happy with it. I plan to add a winch, and want to look at converting it from a hand crank landing gear to a hydraulic one. We hook and unhook frequently.

I have a 35' Big Tex, with mega ramps, no complaints OTHER than seems every brand wants to do cheap/poor paint jobs (power coat, I think is what they call it).

One option that I love is electric over hydraulic brakes. Yes, they cost more but you can thank me later.

I have a belshe 25 foot , it’s a little too much for a single tire pickup if you load it up . 8000 empty .

We haul 12 rolls on bottom , if we don’t have to get on highway we will double stack on top and one on neck .
6.7 ford pulls it fine , just not enough tire on pickup .

My friends load trail has some kind of deal called super ramps ?easy to flip over . My trailer has some ramps you better eat your wheaties before you flip .

I called and priced a load trail , changed my mind when I got the price .

Friends has I guess about every option they have / his is what’s called an engineer spec trailer . Totally different than my old trailer . Frame is different , neck is totally different , I think it’s got 17.5 / 16 ply tires . It has a tube through the middle and the bed is way lower than mine, it also has sliding ratchet winches , nice chain boxes , winch . I don’t remember exactly what he said it cost but I think he said 35 k . Money is not a factor in what he buys . Dang it’s nice

Ludington/Manistee MI area

Never ran out of tires here and this isn’t my biggest load either.  Plenty of independent trailer manufacturers mine was built by a chain smoking borderline alcoholic and turned out good.   Go with dual tandems instead of triple singles.

Unless you need some special features, off brand names use the same components as more expensive ones. I thought my cheap cattle trailer used wrong color wires in the wire harness to save money. I’ve heard even the high dollar ones do the same sometimes.

Midsota would be close to you, and a step up in quality over most. Years ago I recommended a Midsota hydraulic tail to a friend and neighbor up in Idaho for use on his ranch and I still get thanked for the recommendation.lol I guess it's been flawless. You need to really watch the hydraulic tails, as cheaper trailers with softer metal can tear loose the hinges.
Edit: a quick visit to the website shows "Midsota by Novae" which would indicate a buyout of some kind. definitely research further to ensure quality hasn't dropped.

We have 5 PJ trailers on the farm and one Lonestar.

For what I use them for (on road only where I need to be weight conscious with a 14k trailer) they do great. However I probably wouldn't recommend any of them for farm use.

Big tex is below PJ in quality. Lnestar seems better than Big Tex, but still less than PJ.

Load trail is similar to PJ.

Try to go with a trailer from up north that actually knows what road salt is and what it can do to a trailer. I believe there is a company out of Indiana that offers a galvanized unit.
Midsota I believe is still enamel paint which is superior to powder coat.
avoid powder coat if you can. PJ for years never offered primer, then it was optional, now it's finally standard on the goosenecks. They had a handful of years of powder coat without primer and the powder coat came off in sheets.

Pic of the 40' Lonestar in action.

Yes, Midsota was bought out by Novae (a holding company of truck equipment and trailers around the USA). Midsota still has command of their design, equipment and supplies. They still make a Damn good trailers. To OP, the whole point of different trailers manufacturers is their price point. You really do get what you pay for. If it's cheaper then the other, there is a reason. All components are not the same and quality in materials, labor, welding, location all play into the final cost.  There are several good, better and best brands close in and around Dennison Mn for you to research and go look into. Ask the quiestions, why is this trailer priced lower then that one, as most dealers carry a couple different price points.

I had a 14k single wheel tandem loadtrail with maxi ramps I liked it but ramps were a little heavy if unloading and loading several times a day. I traded it for a 24k duel wheel tandem midsota with a hydraulic dovetail. Much nicer to load

Crawl under the trailers and look at the wiring, if you see a scotch lock, wire nut or non-heat shrink butt connectors scratch that brand off your list.

Midsota makes a very nice trailer. I have a 26+6 20k with a pintle rather than a gooseneck. Fantastic trailer.

I like this Big Tex dual wheel tandem flatbed gooseneck trailer with the two wide ramps. The deck is lower on this trailer, so it don’t have a real high deck height which I like. This trailer is the Big Tex 22GN model, 25 foot total length I believe is correct. I like the wide ramps for loading and unloading as I get older.

I'll second the trailermann (mine is a mustang, built in the same factory) hydraulic tail if it's in your budget. I'll never own ramps again
