I know others have had problems with this. We have a 6400 on a feed wagon. The pto starts and then quits after a bit. Not helpful when you need to load feed. I know it can be any of numerous electrical issues. We have always replaced the magnetic sensor down at the pto which usually is a fix for a while. Also, we have had service tech check other parts of the system. We are being told we should replace the PTO timer relay. It is a $600 part. (AL78132) One question I have is why did they make this so complicated? - to have half a dozen electrical components just to turn the pto on. Stupid.
In an older thread someone said they bypassed the relay. That sounds like a great idea to me but I’m sure it requires jumping some specific wires. Has anyone else figured out a work around?

If you could find a wiring diagram and figure out from the old relay how it is spec’ed, you can buy an adjustable timer relay like this off of Amazon to replace it for under $30

I had same issue on my 6400. Sometimes would engage other times not. Finally narrowed it down to the switch in the cab. Replaced it and no more issues in about 5 years.
Hope this helps.

Mine just blew fuses when not using it. When you went to use it it was dead. I replaced the fuse with a jumper wire with a breaker installed.
Problem solved for at least 5000 hours.

The new timer relay will be different than the old one. It just allows the pto to engage. Doesn't monitor speed. I had same issue with a 6400 and narrowed it to the timer relay. When I installed the new style relay the pto would continue to run however after a short time would slow down. Pressure was good. Ended up replacing the solenoid valve. Ran fine after that. Solenoid valve assembly cost less than timer. I would do that first.

So the issue was not with timer relay at all? I just got that part and yes, it does look different. How was yours acting? Did it not come on at all? Mine will turn on then turn off after 20 seconds.

Our 6200 had a similar issue. It ended up being a loose ground under the side console. Tightened up a 1/2" nut and all was well. It would drop connection and stop the pto

UPDATE: I’m just chiming back in to share what I did. Really no big breakthrough to share. Replacing the magnetic sensor at the pto did make it work again. However, our service guy said we would probably still have issues at some point again and recommended replacing the $600 timer relay. It did act up one day out of five before I got the new timer/realy part installed. I guess if it acts up again, we will know it wasn’t the $600 part. ): One thing to note -the new timer/relay looks very different than the old one. It really looks like something that should cost $20. I questioned if it was the right part. It does not fit in the same place so I had to add a little strap to mount it securely. Fingers crossed. I’m including pics.

Hope you got it figured out. It's just silly that we need a 600$ timer to turn on a PTO!
