I wish we could just buy direct from any seed company. Would save me money, headaches, and their typical BS.
Most farmers under 45 or 50 are internet savvy enough to figure it out on their own, how long before we kick the dealers down the road?
Let's get rid of dealerships and the pointless job of a seed salesman... I wanna buy from the company direct at MSRP
I agree with you, but it seems in some areas there is significant pushback. A lot of customers want someone local to do returns, exchanges, field scouting, ect. I don't want any of that, but know that it is included in the cost of seed anyhow.
I was a seed dealer for 10 years. Took orders, delivered seed. Only time I got called out after delivery was when I sold low germ Stine soybeans and the customer wanted me to do a population check. That was one time in 10 years.
I did do test plots on my own farm and shared that info with customers to help make seed selection decisions.
Monsanto bought Fielders Choice and then mothballed it a few years later. Much like JD bought the rights to the bi-rotor combine and then shelved it.
For my own farm, I don't bother the seed dealer unless I need more seed. I don't return extra seed, I don't need him to look at my fields. Direct sales would work for me, but I understand why others want local service (dealer). |
