Throttle back a combine? First time I've heard that.
To my knowledge Agco is the only one with the ability, buttons or rockers on CNH or Deere.
On Agco cabs from the 2003-2008 timeframe, they have a rotary switch with detents at idle and full, and a "hold" position in the middle. You take it to full throttle to get up to speed, get rolling in crop, then click back to "hold" then quickly bump back close to idle and release back to the center "hold" position, usually pull back just 100-150 rpm as to not affect speeds of machine components
On a 9895 Massey with a C13 425 hp cat, there seems to be a slight glitch in the way the combine talks to the engine, and if left at full throttle it shows 95 percent load and 20-25 gph. If pulled back even just 100 rpm, engine load drops to like 70 percent and fuel usage drops to 14-18 gph.
My buddy who has this herd of 9895s had one come in from Canada and I'm curious if it's been tuned, as it won't go over 2150 rpm and seems to use slightly less fuel. Basically identical consumption to the machine with spreaders and this Canadian machine has a redekop chopper.
Of course we aren't getting too scientific with this, just enough to see a difference on the fuel gauge at the end of the day. Would be fun to see exactly how much with a calibrated fuel meter on the pump.
