I have been looking for one of these for about 2 years, anyone know of one located in/near Iowa? I found one a couple hours away but wanted a ridiculous price, it was like 8k and they still have it to this day.......

Why is 8000 a ridiculous price?

I looked real quickly on tractorhouse and all I saw were smaller and more expensive. If you want it, get it.

We only use carts here and no wagons.

Price doesn't sound bad. Are you sure you want that vs a cart? When that thing sinks, good luck.

Better put a decent horse in front of that , I know a 800 cart behind a 7140 was plenty. Of course my tractor is small by today’s standards.

They're completely different things.

A cart is used in the field for moving grain from the combine to the trucks or wagons sitting on the end of the field.

A wagon or truck is used to haul grain down the road.

If that wagon sinks, its because some idiot pulled it where it didn't belong.    Same as when a truck gets stuck in a field.

IMO, if its in good shape and you want one you better buy it.    There isn't many of them out there and $8000 doesn't buy much anymore.   Take a look at a new Brent 657 for ~$30k.     Wasn't that many years ago that a 644 was under $15k.    Not that much has been improved on grain wagons, just the value of the USD cratering.

Yep. It's always easy to park on good solid ground. Very good point. Yet a cart can do all the things you mentioned. Not one. And they float on wet ground just in case "an idiot" happens to pull someplace other than the road.

Do you not use trucks to haul grain in Michigan?

Yes. There are trucks here. And grain carts. Gravity boxes (have two 750 Brent's myself). So yes. A variety of vehicles to move grain.

If there is none to pick from I would say the seller gets to determine what they are worth? What do you expect to pay for one?

The wagon will never move from a auger, and its in very bad shape... tires are a time bomb......

I would think using it as overload storage would work pretty good. I thought it was something you wanted to use in the field. I know I pull two 750 brent gravity boxes and you need to be very selective on where you park and load those things. I've also used one box just as you are planning and carted everything right to it if I was close to home.

Those look like airplane tires, they’ll last forever, especially if you never move it loaded, they’ll still last forever even moving it up and down road with a load and cord showing.

My thoughts as well. We had a couple A&L grain carts back in the late 70's early 80's with 34 ply, 250 MPH rated tires. They were pulled behind a tandem truck empty from MN to OK and back several times and carted quite a few bushels of wheat and corn in the field with little to no tread. I'm guessing the tires are probably still in use if the carts are still being used. Field floatation is almost nonexistent with airplane tires.

Make em an offer. Worst he can say is no. Or maybe you already have?

We use a large wagon in front of auger also. I understand and appreciate the desire for a larger holding bin while the cart is off catching

Based off of the picture the OP posted and the picture in the link I'd think they'd be open to offers.

Spoiler alert, its the same picture of the same wagon, posted in 2011.

20 years ago I used a Lowery bin as a surge bin at bin site. Worked good, but I wasn’t dumping a cart into it. Think I paid $1,200 for it.

Well I'm with you - that sounds higher than heck for what it is. I know inflation is bad, but I sure wouldn't give that much just for an old junk wagon to park over an auger and dump into with carts (BTW, we don't have $8k in either of our 650 bu carts - a Kinze and a Brent). Sure, compared to new $30k wagons, $8k looks cheap, but to us poor guys that buy wagons off bigiron instead of the dealer, $8k sounds awful high. I'd let em keep it for that.

We have actually been looking for something smaller to do the same job - something in the 600-700 bu range. Doesn't have to be pretty, doesn't have to have brakes or a tarp, doesn't have to have good tires. Have passed on a couple in the 4-5k range. We'll find a good deal on one eventually. Till then we'll keep using the 400 bu wagon and unloading the cart a little slower.

Peoria,IL.

I have an old Brent with tandem rear wheels, uses hydraulic cylinder to open door on bottom. I think it holds about 600 bu. It needs repair from rust. Five tires look very good and 1 is older.
I will try to get it out next week. $1000 or best offer. Travels good.
