Funny you ask, Dad was supposed to have his done this morning at 7AM, but they asked him if he was still 5'10", and he told them no, he had shrank to about 5'7"...which now puts him above their maximum BMI for doing a knee, so they sent him home to lose weight and come back later.

Made us all laugh, because apparently no one thought to do their own measurements in the last 4 months while they were consulting with him. Mom happened to measure him last night because a friend who had both knees done was telling Dad he gained a couple inches of height back after the surgery. Dad was hoping he got the same, so they took a before measurement!!

Good luck in your recovery!
Chris

Had one done 5 years ago. First 10 days of recovery are pretty tough. I thought after 6 weeks it felt better than it did before surgery. Surgery in December and by spring I was carrying seed bags around thinking it feels really good but by summer it felt like it was my very own brand new knee. Still feels great now. Push yourself in therapy till it hurts as much as you can tolerate. It will pay off.

My wife is scheduled to have her first one done 1/24/24. She's looking forward to it because right now she can barely get out of a chair. Will have the other one done ASAP after recovery from the first one.

I had my right hip done December 4th. They did anterior method, hip pain was gone when I woke up. Insicion pretty sore, right quad sore and have had to build strength in my hip flexor. I mostly slept and did pt first week but doing pretty good now. I am walking 1-2 miles a day. I roped calves for 29 years and am 64 now.
Good luck with your recovery. My mountain hiking buddy had both knees done in the summer and he is hiking 4 miles with 1000 foot of vertical up already and he is 10 years older than me.

I had both knees done on Dec. 4th.  Getting better daily.  Main problem all along has been just getting up from a chair or the toilet but that's pretty decent now.  I'm glad I did both at once, I can't see wanting to go through recovery twice.

Last knee replacement 2014. I made mistake of putting it off until I could barely walk. That with multiple infections. It never got good. I should have done it 2010.
That would have been 15 years on total nine socket glue/paste/screw/plate.

I had a knee replaced in Jan of 2020. Will be the last one I have done in the winter. I about wore the carpet out doing the required walking. Next one will be in the summer so I can walk outside.

Had my right knee replaced in 2019, so far it works do have days it does hurt even yet, I had 2 rotorcuffs worked on so I thought a knee replacement would be easy, they say rotorcuffs are the worst to recover from so I was some what disappointed I did recover as fast as I wanted but do you exercises and so them as they tell you and you will do fine. I walk or ride an exercise bike about every day. Don't walk as fast as I used too and standing along time is hard on me but then I'm real close to 69 qnd have stood on concrete way too many years,

Getting my right one done on 2/28, had my left one done 12-2021. Could've had it scheduled for 2-14, but better half will be in the middle of a Carribean cruise. Last on I was 21 days, before I got back into tractor. Did a little snow plowing using the clutch to 'exercise' my new knee.

Ice is your friend, get rid of walker (while inside anyhow) ASAP, it can become a 'crutch' per se.

Had one done Dec. 13 . Two days before i couldnt get from the truck to the front door of the grocery store . Used the cart as a walker . Three weeks later i went up and down every isle . Do the next one the 24th . Best advise is dont let them go too long . Get it done . Had five consultations . Ended up in Decatur orthopedic. Mite be a fluke but i never had any swelling or pain the 1st three days . Next ten werent the most fun . Dont skip therapy . Wanted both done at same time . Dont think i would now .

Had mine done Dec. 13th. Feels pretty good now but has a ways to go before I'm jogging the driveway. ;)
Have my last PT tomorrow. Had 128 degrees of bend on my last visit and hope to get past 130 tomorrow. From what I understand that is about as much as I will get.
Like others said, do the PT and exercise. The pain sucks but it is short lived and range of motion all comes in the first 6 weeks.

Good to hear the positive outcomes here. Makes me a little nervous knowing I can't go back.

I spent time finding a highly recommended surgeon then just used what was recommended.
Don't think the longevity of various implant manufacturers is very different. As I understand they all use the same material with slight variations in design. Though I could be wrong.

Not sure how a partial knee is different but my surgeon said that wasn't a good option for me.

sw corner ia.
wife did it two years ago. recovery is as fast as you push the pt, and you had better do your pt unless you want a peg leg.

make sure you use those socks. don't overdo the cooling wrap thing, too much will cause a big achy leg. after a while you won't need that.

OK, one big thing to do before you go get your knee replaced is to raise your chair up about 5-7" off the floor. This will make it so much easier to get up out of your chair. Another thing if you can add a ski rope above you to help too. To pull your self up out of the chair. A lot of ppl don't know that you can only get your knee replace 3 times after that you will lose it. You do not want to get a infection in your knee,do EVERYTHING your Doc tells you to to keep from get one. I worked a mobile lab that went around to surgery centers and worked with Doc. to show them how to do replacements. knees ,hips . Farmers are the worst patience's, I've had one done so far.. now I need a ankle done.
Good luck.
