southern MN | Unrelated, but maybe some will find it interesting on a really cold evening, this company got involved in a major legal case back in the 1800s involving patents and licensing and controlling a sold item after it is sold.

The company wanted to sell the machine based on how much use it got. They required you use their staples after you buy the machine, and then charged more for the staples.
Eureka made staples that fit the machine for cheaper, and the legal battles were on….
Might have shaped how current licenses are and that we really can’t buy and own anything any more.
