Anyone have any good to great Milo varieties that are yr in yr out pleased with? Or any conversation about what’s worked and hasn’t. I understand every yr is different. Possibly better suited question for varieties on great, good, fair and poor ground related questions as well. Thanks.

I can second the channel variety 5R45. Best standing milo we have ever had with excellent yield potential. In the good years have seen it go up to 125, and down to the 35-40s in bad on tough ground. I need to try some of those other Dekalb and pioneer numbers that you shared. We plant about 52k pop. And the cost of the seed is down around $13-14/AC.

Weed management and planting date also play a huge role, especially when it got this dry and hot all summer. 1 month difference was huge this year. There were thousands of acres around not harvested this year.

85y88 was better here this year. Beat decalb 44 07 by 15 bushel. We were dry like everyone, from 20-30 below aph.

Channel 5R45 and 6B02 have been really reliable for us. Not sure if you can get 6B02 for 2024.
Dekalb 38-16 was our best milo. Very tall and really grazes well. It stood really well but we did have some heads break off from wind. Didn't lay it over though.
I have used on our tougher ground a Golden Acres H390W. It is a cream that is a steady producer. Heard a rumor that I might be dropped. Betting someone else has the same number.

DK 36-06 did not do well for us. Smallest heads and was just across the road from 38-16.

Ill second rick on the 38-16, several customers echo the standability of 38-16. our 36-07 yielded better but fell down. I am so over picking up milo. I also had a fungicide plot on some and it helped on one field and didnt help on the second.

and 390w is still available this year. but I have quit growing it as we have shifted to mostly corn.

double team milo has been performing welll for guys needing a spray option. first act works. igrow herbicide is essentially pursuit, and it doesnt work as well (imo) and the residual is long.

you know how to reach me if you want to bounce ideas. goodluck!
