Hands down not even a question the best corn head I've ever had. Absolutely love mine.

Good head. Every other day maintenance gets old. Works well in down corn. Longer snapping rolls allows slower rpm so much smoother picking then a shorter roll like JD.

Auto deck plates work good. Quad suspension a joke since a kernel under deck plate will jam it up.

Would like to see a Maya beside Drago. Same concept with longer rolls but much less daily maintenance?

Talked to a cousin yesterday who hated his and ended up going to a Case 4412.

I was surprised as we ran a Drago Series 2 for ten years and thought the GT looked like a huge improvement.

We went with a Geringhoff Northstar instead of the Drago GT and after two seasons really like it.

Bought a used one to use last fall. Brought it home and spent some time getting it ready. Most of the shock absorbers under the deck plates were not moving and most of the in and out mechanisms were frozen. I think the people who traded it off ran it in some wet conditions and didn’t clean it up after they were done. Got everything moving and harvested about 700 acres with it . After I was done blew it all off and all the deck plates were still free but I didn’t use it in the rain and had it in the shed if it rained. Worked great at speeds up to 6mph and shelling on the head was really low even in a lot of 17% corn. I thought it chopped well ( single chop ) and don’t think I would need double chop at all. I could see if you like to harvest in the rain the suspended deck plates would require some maintenance. Ear and kernel capture were excellent. Broke a short driveshaft two days in and it was a pain to fix but Arnold’s in Alden had the parts and $290 and a little swearing we were running again. I put a set of g4 stalk stompers on it and after I got them adjusted right they worked real well.

Over all like my GT very well. (I think). Does a very good job.
As mentioned above: Harvesting wet stalks. Not sure here. This year did everything in dry conditions. Quad suspension still active/free., after harvest inspection & cleanup. Year before did a lot of 'wet' operation. Suspension all plugged up, stuck, etc.

Biggest head ache this year: This shouldn't' be! My ear savers were worn out, so I replaced them. The new material is thicker, stiffer. I wondered about this when I put them on before harvest. Being in a severe drought area, sure enough, hill top stunted corn would not feed. What a pain. BTW: I installed the new savers in the most open position. Well... after climbing out of my machine tooooo many times, I reinstalled one (1) side with old worn saver. (One new, one old). This worked.

Hope all had a bountiful harvest! As I said above, I had stunted corn on some hill tops, but OMG the yields getting into better ground! Averaged out, WELL above my expectations! These new hybrids are for real, coupled with drought growth regulator sprays!

Happy Thanksgiving all!

What is a drought growth regulator spray and what helps using it in a drought? And what if there is not a drought?

Used one for a couple of years now, hybrids make more corn on the ground than the heads do, had a 4408 IH head that did a good job, the GT has to much maintenance and special oils and greases, wanted to talk to company man at farm show he said use your computer and blew me off.

We had a Drago series 2 chopping head a while back, it picked very clean, the chopping head took alot more power than our current head. We fix most everything ourselves, when things break on a Drago just go back to the shop because it is torch and air hammer time. Its like the engineers used to work at a neighboring Italian sports car factory and thought a corn head tolerances needed to be that tight too. Every bearing or sprocket needed to be cut off or heated, even the new replacement parts needed grinding, Emory and convincing to go on. As others said alot of maintenance. If you hire all your fixing out maybe not a problem, the head worked good. We switched to Maya. Still a chopping head but uses alot less power and maintenance/ repair is extremely simple.

How does the maya compare feeding wise? Any auger trouble? Looks small like the Drago series 2 was

Have a 6-30 GT and am very happy with it. No chains to oil and adjust other than the gathering chains. Love the self adjusting deck plates. Pretty easy to blow the head off every couple days, to me it's worth if for as well as the head works. Almost zero head loss.

Gt is great corn head. Few things that weren't liked about the Series 1 and 2 were changed in a Gt.

Some get all weird bout special oil and grease. The biggest thing was using wrong grease on series 1 and 2 deck plate piston cavity. The Gt doesn't have that type of deck plate spring piston set up. No spring piston to grease.

You don't need to buy Drago EPO grease, and they will tell you that.

If it makes some of ya feel better, go buy it at your Gleaner dealer....lol
