Subject: What are your best Corn Hybrid/Varieties this year?

SD, US
Hello,

We have had good luck with Golden Harvest and Dekalb the last number of years. G10L16 is our longest day corn 110 day and has performed well. Dekalb 55-85 also did well this year.

So looking to maybe venture out a bit more and try other brands or if you have solid numbers of either GH or Dekalb that you have liked, I’d sure like to hear. I have heard some good stuff out of Channel and a few Pioneer numbers locally. We plant anywhere from 97-111day corn. SE South Dakota.

Thanks!

Best here was 57-71 dk the farm went 246 over the scales number 2 corn. Had the most rain out of all farms. South of that farm 15 miles got a lot less rain. Ended 179 with a 102 101 day dk the 101 day better by 8 bushel. The 179 has a better aph then the 246 also. Then head west 6 miles where I caught more rain then the last farm. The 101 went 220 with a 105-33dk that went 214. Same aph as the 179 field. Venture north 5 miles and the 54-64dk ran 6 better then the 57-71dk side by side All said and done the mid maturity for here 104-107 day corn was the winners. With 54-64 winner for conditions overall. Was some bad numbers out there in these dry conditions.

This was my first year planting any Golden Harvest Corn. I put G10L16 On my very best farm and it failed me. Was my worst corn this year with serious pollination issues. I had three other hybrids from three other companies within half a mile of this farm and all three pollinated great on poorer soil. I'm not one to publicly run something down just because I'm a little butthurt but that hybrid cost me a LOT of money this year.

My best was MFA MC4311TRE

We ran an Augusta/Golden Harvest plot this year. Corn on corn stress plot; 180-0-0 total applied. No fungicide. The G10L16 is a very good hybrid, came in 3rd at 242. 1259 won the plot at 247, 1265 was 2nd at 244. Both are Augusta numbers; the 1265 is likely too long of season for you, but 1259 is a constant plot contender at that maturity. In our wetter area of the world its a candidate for fungicide, but unless it's a wet year it doesn't need it (25"+ growing season)

Jacobsen 7625 and NK0877. But did not win by much, they were all good. Had Dekalb 60-69 that still yielded right up there.

Fs growmark 5699x did 250bu and Seed Genetics Direct did 300bu. We never have yeilds like this here and the only change was subsoiling. Compaction really is the silent yeild killer even in no till.

Especially in notill*
Even doing everything as perfect as you can, there's always one year that will kill your yields for the next decade.. it was 2020 here. Pushed back planting until June and still ended up in the mud
