.
Back to NE Wisconsin. Lots of field activity going on. The Kwik Trip cow, that's definitely a Wisconsin thing.

There are supposed to be a herd of elk in the area I went through, but I've never come across them. This big boy lived in a small village park.

I'm amazed at how many barns you see that are falling down. You do see that around here once in a while but not real often, your pictures are great, hope your feeling well.

Every 80 and sometimes 40 had a house and barn. Most of those small dairies went out of cows within the past 20-40 years and no use for barns, super expensive to repair and if no use the easiest thing for most is ignore, fall down, burn or bury. Do you have similar barn density in your locale?

If they don't have the funds to maintain them they don't have the funds to knock them down either.

Also as a maintainer of an old barn they don't have many other great uses other than collect junk due to the narrow doors and low ceilings.

Yes they are the classic definition of a stranded asset, have seen some remodeled to make a pretty decent shop by taking out the haymow and putting a big door in the end. Mom is going to have new roof put on the one dad built in 68-70, will cost 5x more then he spent out of pocket build it, including the barn cleaner.

Many disappear every year, time will come when they will be far and few in between-times are changing- I am 58, many times wonder what the countryside looked like in the hey day of the small farm, probably in the 50's into the 60's
