I have heard bad things about a kinze 4900 planter. What is the bad and the good about them? Can they be made to plant? The local Kinze dealer said they WILL NOT have anything to do with a Kinze 4900 planter. What do you all thing? I need a bulk fill planter before next year.

Currently have 2 of them. The older one with raven viper as a controller is a bit of challenge. The blu vantage is very easy to operate and diagnose. Wouldn’t change a thing as it is not tied to a given color of tractor/mfg

2014’s we’re the first year and had some issues and it tainted the reputation of all 4900’s. I k ow 2 guys that have 2014’s and after all the updates were made they worked fine and are still planting but now one has been converted all to ag leader

I have a 4900. Great planter. The got a bad rap because there was software issues. The planter itself was great they just couldn't get the software right to run it. There has been many updates now And they are very good planters. I have zero bad things to say about mine. Wait yes I do. I hate the marker arm assembly. It hangs out way too far from the frame and is to close to the ground when it's down marking. But I rarely use markers so not a huge deal.

I got 2014, very good planter! I put the ag command 1200 monitor on it , first year was a challenge and Kinze bent over backwards to help us get things worked out .

I’m on year 3 with 4900. I converted it to all ag leader. I had some hydraulic issues the first year, that seems to be resolved now. About the only thing I don’t like is how it folds. It can hit the fertilizer tank if it’s not in the right spot on the hitch. It is a 2014.

We bought 2019 4900 late last summer, we had it working great the first of March until John Deere tech screwed with the server. They never got it to plant without some problems. John Deere told us to get a Ag Leader 1200 to run it because they were out of solutions to fix the problems. We switched it over to and it has been great. Wilson

I've run one for several years. Like any implement, it is not trouble-free. But it does an excellent job with seed placement.

The first thing you notice is that it raises very slowly. I think the 4905 addressed this, among other issues. Next, I think the pneumatic down force is a joke. We're in the process of removing it for next year. Hydraulic would be much better. So would springs.

The pneumatic down force is a joke, due to the way it is set up on the 4900 planter specifically? Or pneumatic down force on planters in general is a joke?

Whats the issue?

The compressor is puny and response time is slow. Kept blowing fuses until we split it off to its own circuit. Bags can develop slow leaks, limiting the pressure. The compressor has a dinky air filter that is needlessly difficult to clean, I think.

Our next planter will have hydraulic down force. More positive and reacts essentially instantly.

You must not use your left marker at any time or you might need to tighten that marker disk angle bolt?

The wide-angle shot exaggerates how that looks. I don't use markers very often. But I do like knowing that they are there as an option.

We bought a 2014 4900 3 years ago. Been a great planter we have a good kinze dealer that came out and set it up. Run ours with an integra. We carry one spare row unit module and one meter drive module with us plus some wiring harness and a spare drive motor. Only have had to put one motor drive module on in that time. I agree with the other poster the markers are kind of a joke. To low to the ground and stick out to far. They are a pain going along terraces and they don’t flex down very far which makes them useless in farm over terraces. Lifting is slow. All in all really enjoy the planter.
