I have a 15 year old EBY aluminum trailer that has only been power washed with water. I would like to shine it up a little and have heard about places acid washing. What exactly does that involve and what type acid is used?

Don't......just don't

What do you use?? I wouldn't use regular Acid for sure!!

We have recently been using TCI 503. It's supposed to bring back the original shine of polished aluminum. It positively won't turn it white like Acid. Seems to work well if it isn't too far gone.

You do need to be careful not to let it dry on the surface. A calm, cloudy, cool day is ideal. Don't do it in wind or sun. Pre wet the aluminum, do a section at a time. Spritz a little on with a garden type pump up sprayer after you have wet a small section. Scrub it with a brush for a minute, rinse it off with a pressure washer.

Works good for us, doesn't turn it white at all. If you let it dry on, you will get black streaks. DON'T LET IT DRY ON!!

There is also an aluminum cleaner that Mac Trailer sells. You would want to check with a Mac Dealer. It can be used on polished aluminum with no ill effects. We've used it in the past with good results. No whitening of the aluminum. We can pick up the 503 locally, that's the reason we went to that.

We have been using schippers for 2-3 years now, seems to work well but we wash ALOT, not uncommon to wash 2-3x a week when hauling, I hate dirty rigs

You guys that wash all the time either have more time or more energy than I do.
Full disclosure When I had 4 trailers they all got washed every couple weeks. Waxed once a year. I could wax them while loading as every one had 6 inch pullouts ! LOL

With foamers and power washers it's a 30 minute job, not a big deal to wash 1-2 every day

You must work faster than I do.
It takes me 30 minutes to get the stuff around to do it. Probably an 90 minutes per trailer after that. May be a little faster, depending on how dirty it is.

Permanent power washer in the shop with 100' reel, foam cannon on the power washer and wash it all off, don't brush very often anymore

Agree 100% once you use acid have to all the time. Also it hard on surfaces. Doesn’t
really make it shine.

Same thing goes for products like the T&T cleaner. Its just a real strong base vs acid.

Aluminum brightner is acid and will oxidize the trailer. Does a good job cleaning but will turn it white. On a 15 year old trailer it may be your best option as it will be clean but dull looking. I'm not familiar with anything else that will clean 15 years of dirt and grime off of an aluminum trailer

If you use acid wax it right after.
FYI Timpte used to recommend not using acid.

Sounds like I better leave well enough alone. It's far from being terrible looking, thanks for all your replies.

So its-10 out. Get your trailer washed at truck wash. Drive it outside in cold. How do you wax it outside? And no heated shop to drive it in. How do you wax it?
You can spend hours waxing by hand to do a good job
